The support staff for the Indian men's cricket squad is about to be fired by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI has chosen to fire strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, fielding coach T. Dilip, batting coach Abhishek Nayar, and a team masseuse, according to an IANS report.

In July 2024, Abhishek Nayar left the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to become the assistant coach for the Indian squad. Soham Desai joined the squad in October 2020, and T. Dilip joined in November 2021. They participated in India's successful 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign.

The article claims that after the team's heartbreaking Test series loss in Australia, several BCCI members have questioned the necessity of the number of coaches on the support staff. The board believes they still have a lot to offer to the future of Indian cricket.

One more Indian Team Member fired after Abhishek Nayar, T. Dilip's sacking

Not only are Abhishek Nayar and T. Dilip sacked from their positions in the Indian team, but the BCCI has also let go of one important support staff member of the Indian team.

Additionally, an unidentified team India masseuse has been fired by the BCCI. Arun Kanade, one of the masseurs and a member of the team's Champions Trophy-winning support staff, has been rumored to be the masseur.

“Some people on the board had been saying, What's the point of having so many people in the men's team support staff, especially after the debacle of the Test series defeat in Australia?' They had this view that with so many coaches there, the support staff of the men's team gave a crowded look.

BCCI isn't happy

So, this can't be called sacking; it's just about giving the support staff a lean look. Also, this can't make the likes of Nayar, Dilip, and Desai good or bad coaches, because they still have a lot more to offer to Indian cricket and shaping its future players,” a source told IANS.

Abhishek Nayar's tenure as Team India’s assistant coach lasted just eight months. Nayar’s sacking is a very surprising one, as several players like KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, and many more have credited Nayar for rejuvenating their careers.

Ryan ten Doeschate survives to become the fielding coach; Adrian Le Roux is the new strength and conditioning coach.

Ten Doeschate, the ex-Netherlands player who was brought in as assistant coach, will now transition to the fielding coach in place of T. Dilip. He had previously worked as the fielding coach for Kolkata Knight Riders before joining the national setup.

According to the source, Adrian Le Roux will take Soham Desai's place as the new strength and conditioning coach for Team India. Le Roux is a South African who is presently playing with the Punjab Kings in the 2025 Indian Premier League. He also worked for the Indian national team from 2002 to 2003.

From 2008 until 2019, he also played for the Kolkata Knight Riders. After the IPL season ends, Le Roux is anticipated to formally join the Indian lineup.
