The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have faced their second-worst season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They are currently at the bottom of the points table with just three victories in 12 group-stage encounters at a net run rate of -0.992.
Chennai has faced a huge issue with the bat inside the first six overs of the innings. Their opening stand has not clicked at all, with most of the Indian domestic players failing to make an impact with the bat. Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar haven’t contributed well in various situations.
Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury came as a body blow for the five-time champions, However, MS Dhoni walked forward to shoulder the responsibility.
When they bought Ravichandran Ashwin, many predicted that it would be a master stroke for a price of INR 9.75 crore. But the veteran spinner has not been in the wickets, especially on the home surface.
Dhoni highlighted how CSK would try to be practical and begin preparation for the next season by using some of their young players in the squad.
Experience is a term that has framed the franchise to a strong position in the last few seasons, but it might not be the same for the future.
Here are the 3 CSK players who will retire after IPL 2025
1. MS Dhoni
The successful CSK captain and wicket-keeper batter, MS Dhoni, who has won five trophies with the franchise, will be around 45 by the time the next season starts.
Before the end of every season on the last three occasions, there has always a speculation about whether the veteran would return for the next season.

Dhoni has collected only 180 runs in 12 innings for CSK at an average of 25.71 and a strike rate of 140.62, thanks to the best score of an unbeaten 30 runs. His reflexes have been nearly the same as it was in the past.
There are not many occasions when he has missed the balls against the pacers or the spinners. However, their head coach, Stephen Fleming, has dropped the right-handed batter down the order.
The final decision regarding Dhoni’s retirement will be on the individual, and he may think of hanging up his shoes after the IPL 2025.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin has already retired from the longest format of the game during last year’s Brisbane Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
The right-handed batter came to the franchise with a lot of expectation of picking wickets in the middle overs and even with the new ball inside the powerplay.
Ashwin, who has collected 185 wickets in his 216 IPL innings at an average of 30.32 and an economy rate of 7.18, looked bleak in his performance this year.
In eight innings for CSK, he could collect five wickets at an economy rate of just under nine this year.
The 38-year-old may not be part of next year’s IPL, and that could be the end of the individual in the shortest format.
3. Ravindra Jadeja
The left-arm spin all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, whom CSK retained before IPL 2025, has experienced an underwhelming season. With the bat, he has collected 279 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 140.20, thanks to a couple of half-centuries.

With the ball, Jadeja has bagged only eight wickets in 12 innings at an average of 35 and an economy rate of 8.52, with the best bowling figure of 2/24 in an innings.
He could retire from the T20s, having already done the same in the T20Is, just after the end of this IPL 2025.
