Delhi Capitals (DC) are in the fifth position in the points table with six victories in 12 group-stage clashes at a net run rate of 0.260. They made a strong beginning in this year’s IPL with four successive victories before facing a struggle in the middle half of the event.
For the Capitals, the business end has been a very unfortunate position for the franchise. They slipped in four consecutive games, including a washout result against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Most of the foreign players have not come back for DC, which is an additional problem for the Axar Patel-led side.
Even Tristan Stubbs, the middle-order batter, will fly back home after this week for preparation for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 against Australia for South Africa.
The Capitals have a few experienced members in the IPL 2025, who may decide to take their retirement from the shortest format of the game after this event.
Now, they stand at a position where they will need to claim victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium to qualify for the playoffs of the event.
In their previous game, despite the century from KL Rahul, the opening batter, Delhi posted just 199 runs on the board, which both Sai Sudharsan and KL Rahul chased down without much sweat for the unbeaten opening partnership.
Here are the three DC players who will retire after the IPL 2025
1. Faf du Plessis
The Protea opening batter, Faf du Plessis, is one of the experienced members of the league. He has collected 4744 runs in 145 innings of the T20 tournament at an average of 35.40 and a strike rate of 135.81, thanks to 39 half-centuries at the best score of 96 runs.

In this season, for the DC side, Faf collected just 173 runs in seven innings and kept struggling to find rhythm with the bat at an average of 24.71. His strike rate of 122.69 wasn’t up to the mark with two fifties.
The former champion of the IPL is already 40 years old by the end of this edition. He is still fit, but teams may aim to look beyond the veteran to plan for the next few seasons of the tournament.
2. Mohit Sharma
Mohit Sharma is another player who has been connected with the shortest format for a long time. The 36-year-old has collected 167 wickets in 169 innings at an average of 28.37 and a strike rate of 20.1, with an economy rate of 8.47, shouldering the best figures of 5/10 in an innings.
Mohit, over the years, has evolved his pace variations to fox the batters. But the teams and the batters, analyzing him, have been able to crack the fast bowler, which has made it hard for the bowler.

In seven innings so far of the IPL 2025 for DC, the right-arm fast bowler has picked up two wickets at an average of 105 and an economy rate of 10.
3. Dushmantha Chameera
Dushmantha Chameera is another pacer of the DC franchise, who could retire from the T20s after the end of this year's IPL. He is already 33 years old and isn’t a regular member of franchise cricket.
In four innings of this season for DC, the right-arm pacer has collected three wickets at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 22, with an economy rate of just under 11.
Despite featuring in 13 years, he has played 140 T20 innings and may put the curtains down on his career in this format.
