The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) experienced another daunting year in 2025 to be eliminated from the playoffs. They are currently in seventh position in the points table with the help of five victories in 12 group-stage clashes at a net run rate of -0.506.

Under Rishabh Pant, the team has struggled with the bat and ball in the game. A few injuries have also impacted their process in the tournament, while the issues have been around the bowling performance.

Most of their pacers for LSG have gone for so many runs inside the first six overs of the innings but failed to pick up wickets with the ball. That increased pressure on the spin bowling department, which also couldn’t make inroads in the middle overs.

Then, this resulted in the bowlers failing to pick up wickets in the death overs. Their batting side has been aggressive with Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, and David Miller carrying the ability to drill the big shots around the park.

However, the injuries weakened the department. They made a good start in the competition with five victories in the first eight encounters. But since then, nothing has gone in their favor with four successive defeats. LSG is currently in seventh place.

Here are the three LSG players who will retire after IPL 2025

1. Shardul Thakur

The right-arm pace bowling all-rounder, Shardul Thakur, came into the event as an injury replacement. He picked up wickets with the ball in the powerplay, but in most cases, he didn’t bowl to the field placement given by the captain.

LSG’s fast bowler collected 13 wickets in 10 innings of the IPL 2025 with an average of 28.84 and a strike rate of 15.6, with an economy rate of 11.02, thanks to the best bowling figure of 4/34 in an innings.

Overall in the T20 format, the right-arm pacer has pocketed 202 wickets in 174 innings at an average of 26.92 and a strike rate of 17.8 and an economy rate of 9.04, with the best figures of 4/25 in an innings.

The LSG pacer may now look to develop his future in the longest format and gain more confidence by leaving the T20 format after this IPL 2025.

2. Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh will be around 34 years old, and most of the foreign players don’t get a chance to perform at this age. The right-handed batter has notched up 4868 runs in the 188 innings at an average of 32.23 and a strike rate of 134.77, thanks to 31 fifties and one century.

In the IPL career, the LSG all-rounder has smashed 1108 runs in 47 innings at a strike rate of 138.98. Out of these, 443 runs in 11 innings came in 2025 at an average of 40.27 and a strike rate of 157.09, shouldering five fifties at the best score of 81 runs.

Marsh, having been left out of the Test side, could retire from the longest format.

3. David Miller

In the past, David Miller was one of the aggressive batters in the lower order. But things have changed over the years. The southpaw has drilled 11343 runs in 484 innings at a T20 average of 35.11 and a strike rate of 137.74.

This year, Miller has struggled with the bat in the death overs, having accumulated 153 runs in 11 innings at an average of 30.60 and a strike rate of 127.49, thanks to the best score of just 27 runs. At the age of just 35, he could retire after the IPL 2025.
