Mumbai Indians (MI) made a very poor start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with just one victory in five group-stage encounters. But they soon picked up the pace in the middle half of the season and gained momentum with six successive victories to put a strong chance of getting qualified.

Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the five-time champions, didn’t make a solid start to the tournament but later picked up form in the opening position inside the first six overs of the innings. Hardik Pandya, the leader, has been excellent with the combinations and various field placements.

The premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the franchise was a massive boost for the franchise, who turned the tables with a few great performances in the bowling department. Their youngsters and new signings also made a huge impact in the game.

Ryan Rickelton, the wicket-keeper batter, was successful in the opening stand while Suryakumar Yadav, at numbers three and four, has been consistent with the bat in most of the games. Even their lower order has fired in crunch situations of the game.

Here are the five players of MI who will retire after IPL 2025

1. Trent Boult

The former New Zealand left-arm pacer, Trent Boult, has been a regular member of the shortest format and is a consistent performer with the ball. In 256 innings, the left-arm pacer has picked up 304 wickets at an average of 25.01 and a strike rate of 18.6, with an economy rate of just over eight, thanks to four four-wicket hauls.

For the IPL, in 115 innings, Boult has collected 139 scalps at an average of 25.81 and a strike rate of 18.6 with an economy rate of 8.31, thanks to the best bowling figure of 4/18 in an inning.

Boult is already 35 years old and has also retired from the shortest format of the game in international cricket. This year, he has done a decent job for MI with 18 wickets in 12 innings, an average of under 2,0 and an economy rate of 8.49.

2. Karn Sharma

The former Indian leg-spinner, Karn Sharma, is inconsistent with his bowling performance in the Indian Premier League. He has 82 wickets in 86 innings at an average of just under 27 and a strike rate of 19.1, with an economy rate of 8.36, including two four-wicket hauls at the bowling figure of 4/16 in an innings.

In 18 years of his T20 career, the right-arm spinner featured in 171 innings to collect 160 wickets at an economy rate of 7.70, with an average of 26.03.

Karn stays in most of the franchises of the IPL but doesn’t get into the playing eleven on most occasions for the team. That could lead the 37-year-old to hang up his shoes from the shortest format before the 2026 season of the league.

3. Reece Topley

The left-arm Indian pacer, Reece Topley, is someone who has suffered from different injuries in his career. In 185 innings of the shortest format, Topley has collected 230 wickets at an average of 23.20 and an economy rate of 8.41.

He has played just five innings of the IPL to collect five wickets at an average of 36.40 and a strike rate of 20.4, thanks to the best bowling figure of 2/27 in an innings.

Topley didn’t play a single game in this IPL and could hang up his shoes from the shortest format after the end of IPL 2025.
