Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have gone through a very poor season in IPL 2025. Unless they crack a fabulous performance during the last fixture against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, they will finish at the bottom of the points table.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have won three victories in 13 group-stage encounters at a net run rate of -1.030. They started the campaign with a win over the Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Since then, they faced five successive defeats before earning the away win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Despite the win, they were nearly out of the equation from the event before meeting five successive defeats in the upcoming six clashes of the competition.

After Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, which ruled him out of the IPL 2025, the management decided to bring MS Dhoni as the new leader. The wicket-keeper batter tried hard to turn the table but nothing happened for the five-time champions.

Chennai Super Kings hope to retain a few members from the past squad and look to start fresh for the new season. Dhoni has yet to announce his retirement from the league for the next season, while Ravindra Jadeja and a few other veteran players could continue to hold their place in the side.

Here are the four players Chennai Super Kings will retain for IPL 2026

1. MS Dhoni

The Chennai Super Kings’ successful wicket-keeper and captain, MS Dhoni, is expected to remain a vital member of the squad for the 2026 season. He smashed 196 runs in 13 innings this year at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17, thanks to the best score of 30 runs.

Dhoni used some of the fast bowlers pretty well inside the first six overs of the clash. He spoke about the importance of being practical with the last few games of the season and starting practice for the new edition.

The former Indian World Cup-winning captain, for the last few seasons, has not contributed with the bat. However, he hopes to get some runs under his belt to help the franchise.

2. Ravindra Jadeja

The left-arm spin all-rounder from the Chennai Super Kings, Ravindra Jadeja, who gained INR 18 crore, is likely to stay for the event in the 2026 season. He didn’t have a great time with the ball in the ongoing edition.

Due to the franchise’s struggle in the top order, they promoted the southpaw to number four and got the rewards. Jadeja has smashed 280 runs in 13 innings of the IPL 2025 at an average of 31.11 and a strike rate of 137.25, thanks to two half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 77 runs.

Meanwhile, his performance with the ball this year has been underwhelming, with eight scalps in 13 innings. He has an economy rate of nearly nine, which has never put pressure on the opposition in the middle overs.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

The opening batter, Ruturaj Gaikwad, will return to IPL 2026 to lead the Chennai Super Kings. He drilled 122 runs this season at a strike rate of 150, thanks to two half-centuries at the best score of 63 runs.

Gaikwad, despite the franchise not qualifying last year, smacked 583 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 141.16 with four fifties and one century. He is the future of the franchise, who undoubtedly will retain him for the IPL 2026.

4. Dewald Brevis

The 22-year-old batter from South Africa, Dewald Brevis, is a fresh addition to the Chennai Super Kings. In five innings this year, coming as a replacement, the right-handed batter nailed 168 runs at a strike rate of 164.70, with the help of one half-century at the best score of 52 runs.

Brevis has the power and could be the future star of the Yellow franchise. In such a short period, he has won the hearts of the fans and the management, who can retain him for the IPL 2026.
