Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), had a terrible start in this edition. They faced four defeats in the first five encounters of the event. However, the return of their premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, brought new energy to the team.
Hardik Pandya looked to be more aggressive with his planning. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma, the veteran opening batter who couldn’t do much at the start of the season, also got back his beast form. Suryakumar Yadav was the most consistent member of the batting department.
Mumbai Indians earned six successive victories before registering another important win over the Delhi Capitals by 59 runs to qualify for the playoffs of the tournament. They invested in the two powerplay pacers, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, in the mega auction.
Meanwhile, they picked up regular wickets inside the first six overs of the innings to make it easier for Bumrah to make inroads with the old ball. Mitchell Santner was also fantastic in the spin bowling department, and his performance against Delhi on a slow Mumbai surface was incredible.
Here are the four players that the Mumbai Indians will retain for IPL 2026
1. Rohit Sharma
After a struggling start to the IPL 2025, the Indian ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, started to contribute with the bat. In 12 innings, he smashed 305 runs at an average of 27.72 and a strike rate of 150.99, thanks to three half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 76 runs.

At the beginning of the competition, Rohit was looking to nail every single delivery. However, he realized how important it was for him to stay at the crease for the Mumbai Indians.
With no mega auction for the upcoming edition, it won’t be a brainer for the franchise to retain the most experienced player on the side.
2. Hardik Pandya
The premier Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, turned the tables for the Mumbai Indians. He went through a very difficult season in 2024 mentally before making a strong comeback this year.
Hardik has smacked 161 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 161 and the best score of an unbeaten 48 runs. On the other hand, the right-arm pacer also picked up 13 wickets in 11 innings at an average of below 20 and an economy rate of just over nine.
In the middle overs, Hardik came into the attack as a wicket-keeping option. Meanwhile, his leadership for the Mumbai Indians has also been tremendous, with clear decisions.
3. Suryakumar Yadav
Many batters have earned success with the bat in this IPL 2025. However, no one was as consistent as Suryakumar Yadav. The top-order batter is the third leading run-getter of the season, with 583 runs in 13 innings at an average of 72.87 and a strike rate of 170.46, thanks to four fifties.
Meanwhile, in the previous contest against the Delhi Capitals, they were struggling with the loss of many wickets early in the game. However, he steadied the ship at the start before smashing the bowlers out of the ground in the death overs.

Mumbai Indians won’t think twice before retaining the Indian T20I captain.
4. Jasprit Bumrah
It would be the most foolish decision for any franchise not to retain the premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. Mumbai Indians know the value of the pacer in any situation or stage of the game.
Meanwhile, in this IPL 2025, Bumrah is their second leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps in nine innings at an average of 14.12 and an economy rate of just over six. Neither does he go for runs, nor does he remain dry in the wickets column.
Trent Boult will also be in the list to get retained. However, it’s hard to look beyond Bumrah in this department.
