Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came into IPL 2025 with expectations, but couldn’t match that with the batting performance. They got eliminated from the competition and are currently in the eighth position with five wins in 13 games at a net run rate of -0.740.

Before the start of the tournament, most fans predicted that the 2016 champions would nail the big shots and could be the first side to earn 300 runs in the IPL. However, things started to go downhill for the side apart from the first game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Sunrisers Hyderabad started the event with a victory before facing six defeats in the next seven encounters of the tournament. Results started to go their way in the business end, but that was too little and too late for them to get the qualification.

It was commendable for their captain, Pat Cummins, to return to India for the last few games of the IPL 2025 after the cross-border situation that stopped the season midway. The management will find it a little difficult for the retentions with a few renowned players not showing clinical performances.

Here are the four players that the Sunrisers Hyderabad will retain for IPL 2026

1. Pat Cummins

The Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain, Pat Cummins, wasn’t up to the mark in his leadership during the start of the season. However, at a later stage of the game, he used his resources pretty well to earn rewards in the clash.

Cummins picked up 16 wickets in 13 innings at an average of 26.56 and a strike rate of 17.8 with an economy rate of just below nine. He has bowled in the powerplay and the death overs. In addition, whenever the team was under pressure, Cummins returned to the attack to make a difference.

With his national side playing so many games next year, it will be a challenge for the 31-year-old to come back, but if he does, then it shouldn’t be a brainer for the management to retain him.

2. Abhishek Sharma

One of the brightest factors for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in this poor IPL 2025 season was Abhishek Sharma’s contribution to the opening position.

The left-handed batter is the leading run-getter of the franchise this year with 407 runs in 12 innings at an average of 48.33 and a strike rate of 192.89, thanks to two half-centuries and one century at the best score of 141 runs.

Abhishek has displayed his brutal batting throughout the season, especially during the powerplay. He will look to continue the same aggression in the next year’s IPL.

3. Travis Head

It’s hard to go beyond Travis Head, who, even during his worst phase of the league, had a decent end to the season. The left-handed batter has smashed 298 runs in 11 innings at an average of 27.09 and a strike rate of 156.84, thanks to two half-centuries.

Head got just one plan for destroying the powerplay bowling of the opposition side. Sunrisers Hyderabad should look to retain the batter, who could make a successful partnership with Abhishek in the opening position.

4. Heinrich Klassen

The South African wicket-keeper batter, Heinrich Klassen, is another brutal batter for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who has displayed his power and aggression in this IPL 2025.

He has scored 382 runs this year despite going through a lean patch. His average of 34.72 was decent, with a strike rate of 157.20, thanks to the best score of 71 runs. There shouldn’t be any question of retaining the batter who has the skill of dominating the opposition’s bowling side in the middle overs.
