Ali Tareen, the owner of the Multan Sultans, has spoken out on rumors that the forthcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) will be "bigger and better" than previous seasons.
According to Tareen, the tournament features the same teams, and even though the stadiums have been upgraded, that doesn't mean it's the greatest edition ever.
The Pakistan Super League's tenth season (PSL 10) will take place from April 11 to May 18. Over 37 days, 34 games will be played. The four host cities of Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi will host the competition for the six competing teams. The final set of the event will take place on May 18 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
How Is PSL 10 Bigger and Better? - Ali Tareen
In a recent podcast, Ali Tareen questioned the assertion that the Pakistan Super League 10 was "bigger and better." "Such statements feel hollow without any significant changes," he remarked. He emphasized that the competition has always featured exciting contests, including the championship game from the previous year.
"How is PSL 10 bigger and better? Someone explain to me — when we say these hollow words that this is going to be the best PSL, what does that even mean? How will it be the best PSL? It's the same teams.
We’ve had nail-biting finishes every year — seven close matches annually; even last year’s final went to the last ball. So what’s different? It's the same four stadiums, the same stadium experience. Yes, the stadiums are better this year, but is that enough to make it the best and biggest PSL ever? No. I’m fed up with these empty claims," Ali Tareen said on the CricWick podcast.
The first few seasons of the PSL were held in the UAE, and later it was held completely in Pakistan. This year, the PSL 10 will clash with the ongoing IPL 2025 (IPL 18) season as well.
Ali Tareen blames PCB for making false promises on PSL
Ali Tareen wanted to know how the season would really stand out and what efforts were being made to make the league better. Tareen expressed concern that genuine innovation isn't being used to advance a strong brand like the Pakistan Super League.
"I am tired of these promises from the PCB and management about making this the biggest season. What exactly are we doing differently to make it the best? Someone explain. They claim it will be bigger while repeating the same things as last year. How? I genuinely want to know. Is there a plan? Are we doing anything new to elevate it? If so, great. But it’s disappointing to see our successful brand being neglected,” Tareen added.
