Former MI and CSK player Ambati Rayudu revealed his combined all-time MI-CSK XI and in a big shock, omitted Hardik Pandya, the current Mumbai Indians captain. This came as the IPL 2025 got underway on March 22 with KKR taking on the RCB in the opening match in Kolkata.
RCB made short work of the KKR and they chased down the 175-run target with ease, losing only 3 wickets with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli scoring fifties and Kohli remaining unbeaten.
The rivalry between MI and CSK is the biggest in the IPL's history. Both teams have won the IPL title five times, with CSK winning in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. On the other hand, MI has won the title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
MS Dhoni is the most successful CSK captain, with five titles, while Rohit Sharma has won five IPLs for MI. Both teams have clashed 37 times in the IPL, and MI has won 20 games, while CSK has won 17 games.
CSK defeated MI in the IPL 2010 final, but MI defeated CSK in the 2013, 2015, and 2019 IPL finals.
Ambati Rayudu named the all-time MI-CSK XI
Ambati Rayudu, a former Indian batter who spent eight IPL seasons with the Mumbai Indians and six with the Chennai Super Kings, winning three titles with each team, has selected his MI-CSK combined XI.
At the end of his IPL career, Rayudu had scored 4348 runs in 204 games. He selected Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar as his opening batsmen and Mr. IPL Suresh Raina as his third batsman.
Tendulkar scored 2334 runs in 78 IPL games for the Mumbai Indians, while Rohit, who joined the Mumbai-based team at the 2011 IPL mega auction, has taken one wicket and amassed 5458 runs in 212 IPL games thus far as an MI player.
Raina concluded his IPL career with 4687 runs in 176 games for the Chennai-based team; he currently serves as a commentator. In the history of the IPL, the former left-handed batter continues to lead CSK in runs scored.
Rayudu put MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dwayne Bravo after selecting MI's Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard as his No. 4 and 5 hitters, respectively. Bravo was a member of the MI team in the IPL before joining CSK in the 2011 IPL mega auction, while Pollard played for the Mumbai Indians for all 13 seasons and won five trophies.
MI greats Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga were included by Rayudu as the two fast bowlers in the all-time XI. He selected Harbhajan Singh as the only specialist spinner. Bumrah has taken 165 wickets in 133 games thus far, while Malinga concluded his IPL career with 170 wickets in 122 games for MI.
In contrast, Harbhajan played 24 IPL matches for CSK in 2018 and 2019 and concluded with 23 wickets. He also scored 799 runs and claimed 127 wickets in 136 IPL appearances for MI.
