Australia will travel to the West Indies for a Test and T20I tour after a decade in June, Cricket Australia confirmed the schedule on February 6, 2025.
Australia's long-awaited red-ball return to the Caribbean will take them into unfamiliar terrain as they face the Windies in their first Test in Grenada.
Pat Cummins' team's first assignment of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle will begin immediately following the current cycle's final against South Africa in June, with the West Indies hosting Australia for Tests for the first time in a decade.
CWI revealed this morning (Australian time) that the Frank Worrell Trophy series will begin on June 25 at Kensington Oval in Barbados, ten days after the 2023-25 WTC is set to be determined at Lord's.
Australia tour for Test and T20I series in West Indies
Australia and Windies will begin the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle with the Test series for the Frank Worrell Trophy, from June 25 to July 16. The first Test will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados (June 25), followed by the second at the Grenada National Stadium (July 2). WI vs AUS series will conclude at Sabina Park in Jamaica (July 12), followed by five T20Is (starting from July 20.
The visit, Australia's first to the region since 2015, was originally scheduled to include two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is when the current men's Future Tours Programme was announced in 2022.
However, with more than two years until the next 50-over World Cup, both boards agreed to eliminate the ODIs while expanding the other two forms.
"Australia and the West Indies share a rich history”- Ben Oliver, CA GM
Outgoing Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley had earlier asked for a minimum of three-Test series after the previous match between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw, with Shamar Joseph's remarkable seven-wicket haul inspiring the Windies to a thrilling triumph in January last year.
The decision to add further two T20 internationals was made in preparation for next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
"Australia and the West Indies share a rich history, and we're delighted the Test series has been expanded to three matches. The series will start the next World Test Championship cycle and, as we saw last summer, we will have to be at our best to retain the Frank Worrell Trophy.
The additional T20 matches against a dynamic West Indies team will also provide a great opportunity to progress our preparation for the next T20 World Cup which is now only 12 months away,” said Ben Oliver, CA's general manager.
