Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi’s future in the Pakistan National Cricket Team has become uncertain thanks to the Men in Green’s disastrous campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In the esteemed competition, Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam both fell short of expectations.

It became a nightmare when Pakistan hosted an ICC event for the first time in almost thirty years. The team's early elimination from the current ICC Champions Trophy 2025, their first significant ICC event played at home since the 1996 ODI World Cup, ended in heartbreak.

The Men in Green's campaign came to an end in five days as they suffered consecutive losses against India and New Zealand. New Zealand's recent victory over Bangladesh dashed their ambitions of reaching the semifinals.

The entire country was incensed with the PCB and the team since the hosts were unable to salvage their honor as their last group match against Bangladesh was rained off, making them the first host country to conclude the ICC event without a single victory.

Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi's future uncertain as PCB to review Pakistan’s outing

In the meantime, Pakistan's dismal performance has caused many to worry about the team's future, particularly for important players like Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam. It is now official that after the humiliating Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, Pakistani cricket is about to undergo significant adjustments.

The PCB has announced a thorough evaluation of the national team's performance following their Champions Trophy 2025 fiasco, according to Cricket Pakistan. According to the article, while the team searches for a new strategy, Babar, Shaheen, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah would all be excluded from future plans.

Despite the team's dismal performance at the major event, Aaqib Javed, the temporary head coach, is unwilling to resign. However, the PCB might not permit Aaqib Javed to remain head coach in light of mounting criticism from cricket fans and former players.

Mohammad Rizwan and Aaqib Javed clash

The report further exacerbated the confusion by confirming internal disputes among the team, particularly between captain Muhammad Rizwan and the selectors and the coaching staff led by Aaqib Javed.

According to reports, Rizwan was irritated that he was not included in crucial decisions about the selection of the team.

Faheem Ashraf and Khushdil Shah, the point of difference

There was disagreement between the captain and the selection committee when head coach Aaqib Javed chose Faheem Ashraf despite Mohammad Rizwan's desire to select Khushdil Shah for the main event.

Pakistan's problems were made worse by their inability to coordinate, and they were unable to perform well in the competition. They created an unwanted record, as Pakistan became the first host nation in Champions Trophy history to finish last in the group stage without a single victory since the event was launched in 2002.
