Bangladesh has not yet confirmed their visit to Pakistan after the clash with India, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated on Saturday, May 10, that they will go to the United Arab Emirates for the planned two-match Twenty20 International series.
The Bengal Tigers and the UAE will play two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) at Sharjah on May 17 and 19. Later this week, the Bangladeshi team will head to Dubai for the Twenty20 International series. But there are ominous clouds hanging over their five-match T20I series against Pakistan, which was initially scheduled for May 25–June 3.
Bangladesh confirms tour to UAE; Pakistan tour put on hold
To determine the future course of action for the national squad, the Bangladesh Cricket Board met on Saturday, May 10, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The team will go to the United Arab Emirates for a two-match Twenty20 International series, they confirmed after the meeting.
“As part of its continued commitment to international engagement and preparation, the Bangladesh National Team will tour the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a two-match T20 International series against the host nation as scheduled. The series is set to commence next week,” the Bangladesh board stated.
The current India-Pakistan conflict, which resulted in the temporary suspension of both the IPL 2025 and PSL, has caused the BCB to postpone their decision regarding that tour. The planned tour of Pakistan is still being discussed with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
BCB suspends Pakistan tour to put players’ safety first
On May 21, the Bangladesh team will go to Pakistan for a five-match Twenty20 International series in Lahore and Faisalabad. Though the BCB has not yet made a final decision about the tour, the current tension at the India-Pakistan border has raised concerns.
In order to protect the health and safety of players and personnel, the Bangladesh Cricket Board stated that they are keeping a careful eye on the situation and will decide on the five-match T20I series in Pakistan depending on safety and security conditions. Nonetheless, a ceasefire was agreed to by Pakistan and India.
BCB and PCB engaged in negotiations
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in active and ongoing discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the Bangladesh National Team's forthcoming tour of Pakistan. The BCB wishes to reiterate that the safety and security of its players and support staff remain the board's highest priority.
"All decisions concerning the tour will be made with careful consideration of the current situation in Pakistan, ensuring they align with the best interests of the team and Bangladesh cricket,” the BCB statement read.
On Friday, May 9, two Bangladeshi athletes who participated in PSL 2025 before it was postponed indefinitely, Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana, landed in Bangladesh via the UAE. Even if the PSL 2025 resumes, both players are unlikely to rejoin their franchises due to Bangladesh’s packed international schedule. However, PCB has not yet made any call regarding the 2025 PSL’s return.
