The Bangladesh Cricket Board (PCB) is in discussions with the former pacer, Umar Gul, to take over as the national side’s pacer bowling coach. Cricbuzz has reported the development as the right-arm fast bowler revealed.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is in search of a new pace bowling coach to replace Andre Adams, who has a two-year contract running until February 2008. They will face Zimbabwe in an all-format series at home.

Bangladesh is in talks with Umar Gul to be the pace bowling coach

The senior board official has confirmed that the Kiwi, who will be guiding the pacers in the upcoming two-match Test series against the Zimbabwe side, is unlikely to continue in the role until the end of his contract due to dissatisfaction with the team over his performance.

This has prompted the board to look for a new individual for the replacement. Gul informed that they are in talks with the board, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

“We (the pacer and the Bangladesh Cricket Board) are in talks, but nothing is confirmed yet. The confirmation depends on mutual understanding and terms and conditions, and that is dependent on the board.” Gul expressed to Cricbuzz on April 08.

Gul retired from international cricket in 2020 and has built an impressive CV for a bowling coach. He represented the Pakistan side in 47 red-ball fixtures, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is between 2003 and 2016.

However, since retiring, he held the coaching roles for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the national team- Afghanistan before returning as the pace bowling-coach of Pakistan. His experience will be extremely vital for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh keeps options for pace bowling coach

Along with Gul, the board has kept several other options for possible replacements for Adams, including the former Australian pacer, Shaun Tait, along with the former two pace bowling coaches, Allan Donald and Ottis Gibson.

The BCB has extended the coaching tenure for Phil Simmons until the 2027 ICC World Cup. In addition to that, the board has finalized the reappointment of the senior assistant coach, Mohammed Salahuddin.

“The verbal agreement with Salahuddin bhai has been finalized. The formalities might be completed during the board meeting, and the announcement was supposed to be made then, but due to unforeseen reasons, it got postponed.” The Bangladesh Cricket Board official explained.

Salahuddin, the respected coach for the BCB, joined the national team earlier as the senior assistant coach and later took the role of batting coach. He is likely to play a role of the side’s preparations for the upcoming international assignments.

Bangladesh calls Tanzim Hasan Sakib for the Zimbabwe series

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, the 22-year-old fast bowler, has received the maiden Test call-up for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe in April. Litton Das won’t be available for the selection due to playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Karachi Kings.

Shahadat Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Hasan Mahmud won’t be part of the squad from the one that took on the West Indies in late 2024. Mushfiqur Rahim, who has retired from the ODI format after the end of the Champions Trophy, is a part of the red-ball side.

The first game of the two-match series begins on April 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium before the entire focus moves to Chattogram on April 28. They hope to do well in the home series, where mostly the spinners will have a say on the spinning surfaces.
