Virat Kohli has managed to do the impossible and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly bowed down to his criticism. The BCCI is allegedly reevaluating its stringent family restrictions policy on international tours in response to Virat Kohli's criticism.
The rule, which restricts the length of family visits, has generated controversy, and the board has changed its position as a result of Kohli's criticism.
Notably, following India's 1-3 series defeat to Australia, the BCCI established stringent guidelines for family visits. Only after the first two weeks of a tour that lasts more than 45 days can family members, including spouses and kids, join players for a maximum stay of 14 days. Families can only spend a week with the player on shorter tours.
Virat Kohli talks about the importance of family on long away tours
Reactions to the new family visitation rule were mixed, with some players voicing concerns. Having family members around on lengthy trips is crucial, according to Virat Kohli, who said that players would rather have their families than be alone in hotel rooms.
"If you ask any player, do you want your family to be around you all the time? You'll be like, yes. I don't want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal," Kohli said in an event ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
BCCI to tweak strict family policy on India tours: Report
Following Virat Kohli's criticism, the BCCI is allegedly thinking of loosening its stringent family-friendly trip limits. Players may soon be able to ask the board for permission to extend their family members' stays, according to an ANI report.
"While there is no official confirmation yet, sources suggest that under the new framework, players will have to submit requests to the BCCI," the report read.
Along with Team India, the BCCI has extended its family-related limitations into the 2025 Indian Premier League. The new rules state that family members must travel apart from the players rather than on the team bus and are not allowed inside the dressing room.
Kohli is still in the hunt for the IPL Trophy
Regarding Virat Kohli, the 36-year-old is the owner of multiple IPL records, including the most centuries in a season (four in 2016) and the most overall (eight). When the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on March 22, his IPL 2025 campaign will get underway.
RCB lost seven of their first eight games the previous season. But in the second half, Kohli made a comeback, and with 741 runs at a strike rate of 154.69 in 15 games, he finished as the league's top scorer. Because of his aggressive style, RCB won six straight games and advanced to the playoffs.
