The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a special general meeting in Mumbai. The goal of the interaction is to select a new joint secretary.
The vacancy occurred after the former joint secretary of the board, Devajit Saikia, became the new secretary of the board, replacing Jay Shah, who was appointed the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
BCCI calls for the SGM on March 01
India’s former board secretary, Jay Shah, assumed the role of the ICC head on December 01. Saikia of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) took over as the new secretary last month.

That’s the only item up for discussion on the agenda, as the board sent out the SGM notice to all the state associations. Shah has already taken over the role of the ICC from December 01, and so has Saikia, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s secretary.
“Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SGM) of the BCCI, which will be held at noon IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI.” The Apex board mentioned in a statement.
Likely candidates for new joint secretary
The post has got a few names for the selection, including the former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, Avishek Dalmiya from East Zone, or the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Rohan Jaitley from North Zone. Even Sanjay Naik of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) from the West Zone is in the speculation list.
Just like it happened for the Indian board secretary and treasurer, there won’t be any election to pick the board’s new joint secretary. As a rule, a 21-day notice is required to call an SGM, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India has followed the requirement.
Generally speaking, calling a Special General Meeting requires three weeks’ of notice, and the BCCI has complied with the rule. The last meeting was on January 12. Saikia became the new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia got the position of new treasurer.
Second SCG in less than two months
This is the second SGM in less than two months. As unopposed, both were elected in their respective positions.

To guarantee that the board operates effectively, the joint secretary is responsible for the supervision of a variety of administrative duties and collaborating with other board members.
After the nominations are filed, a consensus will arrive. MCA’s Sanjay Naik, A candidate from the West Zone, is likely to get the position.
The BCCI has a few work in hand. Besides announcing the new joint secretary of the Indian board, they will have to draft the schedule of the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium will host all the group games of the Capitals, unlike the last two seasons.
Last year, the ground organized a few encounters of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) which pushed the stadium to take a break for a couple of weeks. Vizag hosted a few games for the DC last season, which won’t be the case in this season.
