Shreyas Iyer back in BCCI central contracts; Ishan Kishan yet to regain BCCI’s trust
After being removed from the Indian Test team after the second Test match against England, Shreyas Iyer declined to play in a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai, which led to a disagreement with the selection committee. Due to a back issue, the right-handed batsman was unable to participate in red-ball cricket.
Shreyas has since returned to prominence in both domestic and international cricket. With 243 runs at an outstanding average of 48.60 over five innings, including two fifties, he finished as the team's top run scorer and was instrumental in India's victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan had taken a mental health break after the tour of South Africa early last year. However, he went AWOL and refused to be in contact with the BCCI and selection panel when they wanted him to play domestic cricket ahead of the England Test series at home.
Kishan's contract remains in Cold Storage
Kishan was only selected for the India 'A' team for a two-match first-class series in Australia, even though he played in every format for Jharkhand during the 2024–25 season.
According to a source who spoke to Times Now, Kishan's efforts haven't been sufficient to guarantee his spot, therefore, he still needs to demonstrate his worth before being allowed back into the core contracts.
