Since the appointment of Jay Shah as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in December last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strengthened its presence by securing key positions in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

On March 07, the BCCI confirmed the appointment of Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar for the ACC. Shah stepped down from the ACC president’s position in December 2024 after three successive terms. The Indian cricket administrator, who also held the position of BCCI secretary, was elected unopposed as the chairman of the ICC.

BCCI’s Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar to join Asia Cricket Council

Rajeev Shukla will take over the vacant position left by Shah and will serve as an Executive Board Member. He already has multiple roles in Indian cricket, including the chairman role of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and will now represent India at the ACC.

On the other hand, the former BCCI treasurer, Asish Shela, will represent BCCI on the ACC Board as an Ex-Officio Bord Member. He has a vast experience in the cricket administration, having previously served in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and as BCCI treasurer.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India would like to inform you about the updates regarding its representation on the Board of Directors of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). With Jay Shah taking over as the Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC), his position on the ACC Board became vacant. Till recently, he was President of ACC.” Devajit Saikia expressed in a media statement.

“Rajeev Shukla will represent the BCCI as an Executive Board Member on the ACC Board. Ashish Shelar will be the BCCI representative on the ACC Board as the Ex-Officio Board Member.” He added.

Mohsin Naqvi to become ACC President in the next cycle

Devajit Saikia has displayed his best wishes as the newly appointed representative as he looks forward to working with the ACC board to promote, develop, and strengthen the progress of the Asian sides.

The last appointment will play a key role in the board's influence in shaping the game across Asia and strengthening its global leadership in the game. This means Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, will get the position in the upcoming cycle.

“On behalf of the Office Bearers and Apex Council, we wish both of them a successful tenure as the ACC works towards promoting, developing, and strengthening cricket in Asia.” Saikia addressed.

India goes into Asia Cup 2025 as defending champions

The last season of the event took place in Pakistan, but because of India’s security issues, their games took place in Sri Lanka in the hybrid model, as despite being the host of the tournament, the Babar Azam-led side flew to Sri Lanka to play the game.

Mohammad Siraj’s heroics with the ball in the final destroyed the Sri Lankan side in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 as they chased down the low score quite comfortably.

Now, before the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, the Asia Cup 2025 will take place in the shortest format, as the board’s immediate agenda is to organize the event in September this year. The Indian Cricket Board’s relationship means the games could take place in either Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates, as options.

The ACC will host four Asia Cups in the current cycle, ending in 2031. For the 2027 edition, 13 ODI games will take place in Bangladesh, while in 2029, 19 T20Is will take place in a neutral venue. The final edition of the cycle in 2031 will take place in Sri Lanka.
