The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has removed two of their veteran coaching staff- assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip, with immediate effect, before the upcoming five-match red-ball series in England.
They decided after the side’s poor performance in Australia in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which the blue brigade went on to lose by a 3-1 margin, despite taking an early advantage of an opening victory at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
BCCI withdraws Abhishek Nayar and T Dilip as India’s coaches
Along with the two coaches, the BCCI also eliminated the strength and conditioning coach, Soham Desai, from the men’s side. They look to bring freshness into their England side.
The defeat in Australia and the home series against New Zealand meant the Rohit Sharma-led side’s failure to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.

Recent reports have claimed that the BCCI was happy with the coaches’ performance in the recent trip. Among the three removed members, Nayar joined the side as an assistant coach last year alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Dilip, on the other hand, is a part of the set-up since the tenure of Rahul Dravid, the former head coach. He got an extension till March this year as they went on to win the Champions Trophy 2025, beating New Zealand in the final.
BCCI ropes in Adrian Le Roux to replace Soham Desai
The Indian cricket board, in place of Soham Desai, has roped in Adrian Le Roux, who is going to have his second stint with the side. He was part of the team as the strength and conditioning coach when John Wright was the head coach of the Blue Brigade in the early 200s.
Later, Roux shook hands with the South African men’s side. But he has also been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the 2008-2019 period before joining the Punjab Kings recently.
Due to his new job for BCCI, he will need to get away from the Indiana Premier League (IPL) work and focus entirely on the Indian national side.
“Nayar, Dilip, and Soham have been informed about it last week. The Indian board will not have any new appointee as of now.” The report of the Indian Express revealed as quoted by the source of the BCCI.
After the end of the Australian series, the board appointed Sitanshu Kotak as their new batting coach, with Dilip sharing his fielding coach role with the assistant coach, Rya Ten Doeschate.
The reason for the Indian board to go after Nayar as the assistant coach was the desire of the head coach, Gambhir, and how the former played a key role in nurturing the young talents in the Knight Riders’ set-up. It’s still under clouds why they have relieved Nayar, whose contract is yet to be finished.

BCCI gave Dilip an extension only for a year. He got more attention for staging the ‘fielding medal ceremony’ at the end of the games, especially during the ICC events.
India earned the Champions Trophy in 2025 after 12 years
India went through an excellent campaign in the Champions Trophy with an unbeaten run. Playing all of their games at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, they beat all the sides to qualify for the semifinal.
India sweated a little against Australia but quite comfortably chased down the target against New Zealand during the final. They now aim to start the WTC 2025-27 cycle on a high with a series victory in England.
