The development Desai's appointment is a signal of the board looking to provide good recognition to lesser-known state associations by appointing representatives to key posts. Earlier, Assam’s Saika became secretary, while Chhattisgarh’s Prabhtej Singh Bhatia became the treasurer.

Apart from Karnataka’s Roger Binny and vice-president Rajeev Shukla from Uttar Pradesh of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), this is the first time that top office bearers are appointed from the lesser-known cricketing states. The reports also claimed that the board will be making the official statement related to Desai’s appointment in the coming days.

“Yes, Desai’s name has been finalized for the joint secretary’s post.A reliable source tracking developments told Times of India (TOI).

Rohan Desai worked as India’s team manager for South Africa trip

Last year, in November, Desai became the manager of the Indian side for the four-match T20I series in South Africa. The BCCI constitution has revealed that the position needs to be filled within 45 days.

The BCCI sent a notice out for a special general meeting on February 06 to the state associations with a single-item agenda of the BCCI joint secretary’s election at noon on March 01 at the headquarters of the board in Mumbai.

The development was a bit surprising since a candidate from the west zone was tipped to get the place. Desai, as the reports have claimed, is believed to be close to Goa chief minister, Pramod Sawant.

It seems that the board is looking to give a chance to the office-bearers of some of the smaller state associations for the posts, as Saikia is from Assam, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia is the treasurer of the board.
