Ben Duckett, England opener has continued saying stupid things about India pacer Jasprit Bumrah despite ECB chief Rob Key’s warnings about England players’ statements. The left-handed hitter claimed to have played against Bumrah in an away Test series and to be aware of the Indian pacer's skill set.
In 2025, India will travel to England for the Test series. The last time they won a Test series in England was in 2007. Before securing a 2-2 draw in the series contested over 2021 and 2022, India suffered severe setbacks in away Test matches against England, falling to 0–4 in 2011, 1-3 in 2014, and 1-4 in 2018.
Jasprit Bumrah is currently out of action
At the moment, Jasprit Bumrah is recuperating from a back ailment. During the Indian tour of Australia, he was in outstanding form, taking 32 wickets at an average of 13.06 in five Test matches, including three five-wicket hauls.
In 45 Test matches, the star bowler has claimed 205 wickets at an average of 19.40, including 13 five-wicket hauls.
During India's 2021 Test series in England, Bumrah also showed off his skills, taking 23 wickets at an average of 22.47 in nine innings. In the Edgbaston Test, he captained India for the first time as well, although the team lost badly.
Since suffering a back injury during the fifth Test match against Australia in Sydney in January, the Ahmedabad-born bowler has been out of commission.
I know what his skills are- Ben Duckett on Jasprit Bumrah
Ben Duckett told The Daily Mail that it would be as difficult to defeat Mohammed Shami as it was to defeat Jasprit Bumrah. Duckett said he doesn't expect any surprises because he is familiar with Bumrah's bowling. England should and can defeat India at home, he added.
"I’ve faced him in a five-Test series before. I know what he’s going to do to me, and the good thing about that is I know what skills he has. There’s going to be nothing that surprises me.
It’s going to be challenging, and the red-ball skills of Mohammed Shami are just as threatening as Bumrah. But if I can get through that opening spell, I feel there are runs to be had. India at home is very different from India away. It’s a side I feel we should beat and we can beat. It’ll be a good series," Duckett told Daily Mail.
Duckett has had awful outings vs Bumrah
India performs differently at home than abroad, according to Ben Duckett, who also thinks England has a good chance of winning the forthcoming Test series.
During the 2024–2025 England tour of India, Duckett faced Jasprit Bumrah. Only once, after Duckett had made 47 runs, was he dismissed by Bumrah, who claimed 19 wickets at an average of 16.89. With 343 runs, Duckett was the second-highest scorer for England in that series, only surpassed by Zak Crawley's 407.
