The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent legal notice to South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch for allegedly violating his agreement with the Pakistan Super League (PSL). According to reports, the cricket player has given Pakistani officials an explanation for his decision to skip the PSL 2025 season.
On January 13, Peshawar Zalmi selected Bosch in the Diamond category of the PSL 2025 Player Draft. The all-rounder eventually decided not to participate in the competition, though. He was just signed by the Mumbai Indians to replace Lizaad Williams, who was injured. During the IPL mega auction, Bosch had not been sold.
PCB sends legal notice to Corbin Bosch over snubbing PSL for IPL
To play for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2025 season, which runs from March 22 to May 25 and coincides with the PSL window, Corbin Bosch has chosen to forego his PSL contract with Peshawar Zalmi.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has responded by sending him a legal letter via his agent, requesting an explanation for his decision to leave the PSL in contravention of his contractual commitments.
Six clubs will compete in 34 games until May 18 in the 10th PSL, which is scheduled to start on April 11. Mitch Owen, a batting all-rounder for the Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes, has joined Peshawar Zalmi. Owen recently made headlines with a spectacular 39-ball century in the Big Bash League (BBL) final.
Corbin Bosch’s reply to PCB’s legal notice
Corbin Bosch, according to Cricket Pakistan, gave PCB executives an explanation for his decision to leave the PSL. In light of various voices in the cricket community demanding that Bosch be banned, the board is currently considering his explanation before making any decisions.
Bosch’s statement said: “His decision was not meant to disrespect PSL. He said he had to prioritize his future, as Mumbai Indians are not only a strong IPL team but also have franchises in multiple other leagues, which could benefit his career significantly.”
The report added that the PCB will now evaluate Bosch's explanation before taking a call against his actions.
"The PCB will now evaluate Bosch's explanation to determine the extent of his contract violation and what action should be taken against him. Some quarters argue that the league's credibility is paramount and that Bosch should be banned from future PSL editions as a deterrent for others," the report added.
Corbin Bosch to be banned from Pakistan Super League
Bosch's expulsion from the PSL has been called for, but many are worried that this would send a bad message to other players.
Bosch received the legal notification via his agent, and the player has been requested to explain his decision to step down from his contractual and professional responsibilities. The PCB management has also emphasized the repercussions of his league resignation, and they expect a response within the allotted time.
Since the PCB had to reschedule its flagship T20 event from its usual February-March to April-May schedule due to the Champions Trophy and other international obligations in Pakistan, the PSL 2025 will conflict with the IPL 2025.
