South Africa’s young pace-bowling all-rounder, Corbin Bosch, has received a legal notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), alleging a breach of contractual obligations, after the youngster signed for the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2025, by pulling out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025).

This is the first season when the PSL and IPL are happening together. India’s 20-over franchise tournament will run from March 22 to May 25, while the PSL will begin on April 11 and end on May 18. Many international players who didn’t earn a team in the two-day mega auction of the IPL signed for the PSL sides.

Peshawar Zalmi, in the diamond category, at the PSL 2025 draft that took place in January, picked up Corbin Bosch. But later on March 08, the Mumbai Indians revealed that they would replace injured Lizard Williams with Bosch in the squad for the IPL 2025.

Many predicted the stance of players switching from one league to another. And the PSL franchises are keen to take some action on the 30-year-old, as they are worried about players potentially signing up with the PSL before shifting their base to the IPL. Such players could also receive an outright ban in informal discussions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also made some changes in the rules of the IPL, where they stated that any player taking their name out of the tournament for personal reasons will face a year's ban from the auction and the event. Harry Brook, who went in that same route for an immediate break, will face the same result.

“The legal notice was served through his agent, and the player has been asked to justify his actions of withdrawing from his professional and contractual commitments. The PCB management has also outlined the repercussions of his departure from the league and expects his response within the stipulated time frame. The PCB will not make any further comments on the matter.” The PCB statement revealed as no period is given to Corbin Bosch’s response.

Due to the Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB pushed the PSL window to improve the quality and availability of overseas players. The league found it difficult to compete with the SA20, ILT20, and BPL for players.

Corbin Bosch’s performance

The youngster recently debuted in the Boxing Day Test match against Pakistan. He thumped 81 runs across two innings, where the unbeaten 81-run knock at a strike rate of 86.17 helped the Proteas to get a fine lead in the first innings. Bosch also picked up five wickets in the contest.

Corbin Bosch doesn’t have so much T20 experience, featuring in just 86 20-over encounters to smash 663 runs at a strike rate of 113.3 and earn 59 wickets at an average of 32.66 and an economy rate of 8.38. Corbin Bosch was also part of the MI Cape Town in the SA20 2024/25 season to enjoy 11 wickets in seven innings at an economy rate of 8.68.

Mumbai Indians to begin IPL 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings

The two five-time champions of the league, MI and CSK, will lock horns for their respective opening games of the season on March 23 in the evening fixture at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Hardik Pandya, who is serving a one-match ban due to a slow over rate, won’t lead the side. They will also miss Jasprit Bumrah, who is likely to join the camp towards the end of March.
