Most England players, due to the upcoming home ODI and T20I series against West Indies, will not return to India for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, Jos Buttler, the former captain of the country, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell will return to India on Wednesday night to complete the IPL duties.

Reports have claimed that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed that some of their players won’t be returning to complete the league engagements, while some players have chosen not to due to various reasons.

CSK to miss Sam Curran and Jamie Overton for the rest of the IPL 2025

The Chennai Super Kings have confirmed that both their England all-rounders, Sam Curran and Jamie Overton, are not coming back, and the franchise has no plans to seek temporary replacements for these two players.

CSK doesn’t have a chance to qualify for the playoffs of the event, so the team has decided to use its current players. Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural champions, have also revealed that Jofra won’t be returning to the injury, and not for any other reason.

“It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for the playoffs. He is nurturing an injury, and we are prioritizing his fitness.” The RR official has expressed in a statement.

Earlier in a statement, the board informed that Archer, Bethell, Buttler, Jacks, and Overton, who are part of the Harry Brook-led ODI side, will feature in the three games against the West Indies. None of these players, therefore, will be available for the playoffs of the season.

In Archer’s absence, the Royals will need to shoulder a lot of responsibility on their young pacers, who, by now, haven’t done well in the death overs of the IPL 2025. Sanju Samson’s availability is still unknown, and in these circumstances, the pressure will be maximum on the standing captain, Riyan Parag, for the last two group-stage games.

RCB to miss Jacob Bethell and Phil Salt

According to the information obtained from the England Cricket Board and the franchises, it has been known that Buttler had reached Ahmedabad on May 13 and the same will happen for Will Jacks, who is a vital part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) and will be at the practice at the Wankhede Stadium on April 15.

Liam Livingstone, the Lancashire all-rounder, who is with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has already been on the flight to Bengaluru. Meanwhile, there is no clarity on the wicket-keeper opening batter, Phil Salt. Jacob Bethell will be back in India, but none of them are available for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Mooen Ali, who represents the Kolkata Knight Riders, is undecided whether he will be required to come back or not. His father, Munir Ali, will confirm the availability in the next 24 hours.

IPL 2025 to start on May 17

After a week off, the 18th edition of the tournament will restart on May 17 with the clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The MA Chidambaram Stadium won’t be hosting any further clashes of the season as CSK and RR will meet each other on May 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The BCCI has pushed the final by a week, which has created availability issues. The first qualifier will happen on May 29, followed by the eliminator the next day. BCCI hasn’t revealed the venues for the knockout games.
