During the telecast of the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) final IPL 2025 match, Suresh Raina caused a stir by perhaps hinting at a possible coaching comeback to the CSK squad.

During the encounter between the Chennai-based team and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the former batter for India and the Chennai Super Kings verified the development.

Suresh Raina hints at becoming CSK batting coach in IPL 2026

Aakash Chopra, who was commentating with Suresh Raina, inquired as to whether the name of the new batting coach begins with the letter "S." By stating that the new coach owns the record for the fastest IPL fifty for Chennai Super Kings, Raina did not refute it and essentially confirmed his return to the team.

The five-time IPL champions' fastest fifty-run record is held by Suresh Raina. He had struck a 16-ball half-century against Punjab Kings in the second qualifier at the Wankhede Stadium in the 2014 Indian Premier League. Chopra confirmed the rumors with a playful comment as soon as Raina gave the major clue.

CSK coach Sriram Sridharan refutes Suresh Raina’s claims of becoming CSK batting coach

Current CSK spin bowling coach Sridharan Sriram, however, kept the details confidential and made no mention of them.

"I'm not sure. I have to ask him if he said that,” CSK bowling coach Sriram said after CSK defeated Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Between 2008 and his retirement in 2021, Raina played for CSK for 12 years, during which time the squad experienced immense success. Raina may be in more of a mentoring role, but it's unclear if he would be asked to join the team formally.

Uncertainty confirmed by a staff member

“Really don't know what is going to happen, I think the good thing is Fleming and MS, Ruturaj. They've got a clear idea of what went wrong and what needs to be done. So I think the road ahead is quite clear, which I think is a real positive,” Sriram added.

Due to Raina's remarks, many CSK supporters are questioning whether the legendary Australian batsman, Michael Hussey, will rejoin the team's dugout following their first-ever IPL last-place finish.
