To resume winning ways in the ongoing IPL 2025, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday, April 14.

The victory put a stop to the five-time IPL champions' five-match losing streak. The Chennai Super Kings have not had a good start to the season. They defeated the Mumbai Indians to start their season.

Additionally, they experienced a significant setback when their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, was ruled out of the competition due to an elbow injury.

The Chennai Super Kings selected MS Dhoni as their captain following Gaikwad's expulsion. Chennai Super Kings lost badly against the Kolkata Knight Riders at home under Dhoni's leadership, but they bounced back to defeat LSG.

Despite their lackluster performance, the Chennai-based team was nevertheless able to end on the positive side of the score.

LSG scored 166/7 in the 20 overs given to them after batting first. Captain Rishabh Pant played a huge knock when players like Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, and Mitchell Marsh failed to score a significant goal. In order to help his team to a competitive total, the under-pressure wicketkeeper-batsman scored 63 runs.

MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube add 57* runs to take CSK home

Rachin Ravindra (27) and Shaikh Rasheed (37), working together, helped Chennai Super Kings respond brilliantly and score 52 runs. But the middle order struggled, with Rahul Tripathi and Ravindra Jadeja's single-digit scores being explained by Ravi Bishnoi.

To help Chennai Super Kings win, Shivam Dube added 57 unbroken runs for the sixth wicket with MS Dhoni. Dube hit 43* in 37 balls with three fours and three sixes. As the side won by five wickets in the last over, the seasoned CSK captain struck 26* with four fours and one six. Additionally, MS Dhoni received the Player of the Match award.

How can Chennai Super Kings qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs?

With just two victories and five losses, the Chennai Super Kings are still at the bottom of the points standings despite their victory over LSG. Even though they have very little chance of moving on before the league stage, they still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

If Chennai Super Kings wins at least five of their remaining seven league games, they can turn around their campaign and go to the next round. Seven or eight victories were sufficient to guarantee a postseason berth in previous seasons, and if CSK can turn things around, they can guarantee a trip to the next round.

With seven victories last season, RCB advanced to the playoffs, whereas Chennai Super Kings, although having seven victories as well, were eliminated. CSK will want to make amends this season after losing because of their net run-rate.
