Throughout the game, Deepak Chahar's friendship with the CSK players was evident. Later in the game, when MS Dhoni reached the crease, he even sledged him. He was also spotted enjoying a good time with a few of his former teammates from CSK.

After winning the toss, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad put MI into bat. On a pitch that was conducive to spin, the CSK bowling lineup, however, held the MI batting in check. With 31 runs from Tilak Varma, 29 from Suryakumar Yadav, and 28 from Deepak Chahar, MI reached 155/9 in 20 overs.

Ruturaj responded with a rapid knock of 53 in 26 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes, while Rachin Ravindra scored 65*. CSK won the match easily by five wickets, despite Vignesh Puthur taking three wickets in the middle.
