Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs, ace South African players, have ditched their IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) as the BCCI is set to resume the IPL 2025 tournament.

According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is eager to get the league going as soon as possible, therefore, it will resume this week.

Following the midway cancellation of the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, the IPL 2025 was halted with immediate effect.

The governing board made the decision to immediately postpone the league for a week in light of the tensions between India and Pakistan.

IPL 2025 is all set to begin from May 17 or 18

Players from other countries became tense as well, and they immediately returned home, especially when Pakistan launched numerous drone, missile, and artillery attacks. However, the ceasefire was recently agreed to by both countries, which prompted BCCI to think of starting IPL 2025 as soon as feasible.

According to RevSportz, assuming all goes according to plan, the IPL 2025 will start on May 17 or 18. In order to make up for the time lost as a result of the cross-border tensions, the BCCI is reportedly intending to retain more doubleheaders for the remaining 12 group league games.

Additionally, it was reported that the BCCI had unofficially instructed all of the teams to call back their international players by Tuesday.

However, it has been reported that several foreign players are opposed to returning to India for the remaining league games because of personal and international obligations.

These include Delhi Capitals (DC) first XI players, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, who is also the vice-captain of DC. The other player is Tristan Stubbs, who is the finisher for the DC team. Both Tristan Stubbs and Faf du Plessis were seen leaving for South Africa together and were captured on camera at the Delhi International airport.

Force Majeure clause means BCCI cannot stop foreign players from leaving

Regarding the international players' decision not to return, the CEO affirmed that they will not pressure anyone and will let them make the final decision because of a force majeure situation.

In the event of an unanticipated incident, each player's IPL contract now includes a force majeure clause that permits them to avoid performing their responsibilities.

A new rule that the BCCI implemented before the 2025 season states that a player who chooses to leave the IPL after winning the super auction will not be allowed to play in the league for the next two seasons. However, in the event of a force majeure event, this regulation is not applicable.

Simply put, this agreement exempts people or parties from carrying out their obligations in the case of an unforeseen circumstance.
