Harbhajan Singh, former India spinner, has found himself in a hot soup after he called RR’s England pacer Jofra Archer a “Kaali Taxi”. This incident happened during the second IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Hyderabad.
Jofra Archer had a bad day at work since he gave up 76 runs in four overs without taking any wickets. In the history of the IPL, the 4-0-76-0 record is the worst ever.
Mohit Sharma, who had previously given up 73 runs during his tenure with the Gujarat Titans, was overtaken by Archer. During his innings, Archer gave up 10 fours and four sixes, allowing Sunrisers to score an enormous 286-6.
Ishan Kishan and SRH demolish Rajasthan Royals
On his SRH debut, Ishan Kishan smashed an incredible century and went undefeated with 106 off just 47 balls. In addition to Travis Head's impressive fifty, the other batters all contributed significantly.
Thanks to Dhruv Jurel, and Sanju Samson’s half-centuries and some lower-order hitting by Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey, RR managed 242/6 and only lost by 44 runs in the end.
Harbhajan Singh slammed for his racist remark on Jofra Archer
Harbhajan Singh is a member of the Indian Premier League's commentary panel. He likened Archer to a "black taxi" throughout his tenure. His remarks were not ignored, and social media jumped on them right away.
Harbhajan Singh made this racial remark while SRH was batting in the 18th over of the first innings of the game. Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen were at the Sunrisers' crease, while Jofra Archer was bowling the over.
Archer was going for a lot of runs, but he was having a rough day. Kishan and Klaasen were both working hard at the ball since the surface was very flat. Harbhajan likened Jofra Archer to London's Black Taxi at this point.
“London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe (Jofra) Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (Like the meter of London’s black taxis, Archer’s meter has also been on the higher side),” Harbhajan said on air.
The fans were offended by Harbhajan's actions and called for an apology. The users even requested that the broadcaster remove the former CSK spinner from the panel for the remainder of the season and take strong action against him.

Harbhajan Singh has called Jofra Archer a black taxi driver with a high meter value just now in the Hindi commentary. This is vile and disgusting. Please ban him.

Obviously in the UK we get the #IPL2025 world feed so didn’t hear Harbhajan Singh and his awful racist comment about Archer first hand.

However plenty did and it’s time that IPL and Star Sports take a stance and take him off air.
