The IPL confirmed on Monday, May 5, that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had acquired Harsh Dubey as an injury replacement for Smaran Ravichandran. As an injured replacement, Smaran himself joined SRH.

The Karnataka batsman was signed by the Hyderabad-based team last month to replace Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa.

SRH plagued by injuries

Smaran's journey was cut short by an untimely injury even before he had the opportunity to make his debut in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Harsh Dubey joined SRH when Smaran was sidelined. The 22-year-old, who plays domestic cricket for Vidarbha, is an all-around left-arm spin bowler.

When he broke the record for the most wickets in a Ranji Trophy season during the most recent domestic season, he made headlines.

Vidarbha won the Ranji Trophy title thanks to 69 wickets taken by Harsh Dubey. The Vidarbha star did not receive a single bid at the auction, despite having a tremendous season in domestic cricket. His base price at the most recent IPL auction was INR 30 lakh, and he has joined SRH for the same price.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) signed Harsh Dubey as an injury replacement for Smaran Ravichandran for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025," the IPL stated.

Harsh's exploits in red-ball cricket have made an impression on everyone, but he hasn't yet achieved the same level of success in white-ball cricket. He has an average of over 35 in List A cricket, but he has only taken 21 wickets in 20 innings.

Dubey has been exceptional in domestic cricket

Additionally, his T20 record is not that spectacular. Dubey has a respectable economy rate of 6.78, although he has only taken 9 wickets in 16 innings.

He joined SRH just as the team was about to be eliminated. They are currently in ninth place in the standings with only three victories from ten games. SRH is unlikely to qualify for the playoffs, even if they win their final four league games. On Monday, May 5, they will play the Delhi Capitals.
