The experienced Indian batter, Virat Kohli, announced his retirement from the T20I format after leading the national side to their second T20 World Cup last year in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA), beating South Africa in the final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
India’s captain in the campaign, Rohit Sharma, left-arm spin all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja also took the same route as the aim was to build a new looking side under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy for the next ICC T20 event in India and Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli finishes as the third leading run-getter in the shortest format with 4188 runs in 117 innings at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04, shouldering on 38 half-centuries and the best score of unbeaten 122 runs against Afghanistan.

In the case of the T20 World Cups, the right-handed batter was way ahead of his time with 1292 runs in just 33 innings at an average of 58.72 and a strike rate of 128.81, thanks to 15 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 89 runs.
Overall, the experienced batter didn’t have a great time in the tournament last year with low scores, but he again proved his value in the final. Virat Kohli smacked a fine 76-run knock in 59 deliveries at a strike rate of 128.81, which helped the inaugural champions get over the 175-run mark. At one point when they were, at 34/3 in the fifth over, it was impossible to even believe.

“If India reaches the Olympics final in 2028, I might just think of coming out of retirement for that one match. Winning an Olympic medal would be magnificent. My transformations came after a few tough tours when I saw the guys lasting on the field longer than us.” Virat Kohli pointed out at the recent Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit in Bengaluru.

“From the team's point of view, things were not tough, but convincing my mum was tough. She thought I was looking sick. And I told her that the world is talking about my training methods and I am not sick. I felt that I was able to do things much better.” He added.
Virat Kohli joins RCB ahead of IPL 2025
