The ICC Champions Trophy, often called the 'Mini World Cup', is one of cricket's most popular tournaments. It is a quadrennial tournament and is organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The first edition of the tournament was played in 1998. The first two editions of the ICC Champions Trophy were held in Associate nations - Bangladesh and Kenya - as the governing body of the game wanted to increase the popularity of the game in those nations.
From 2002 onwards, the tournament has only been hosted by Test playing nations. According to the current format, the teams qualify for the main event through the preceding edition of the ODI World Cup. The top eight ranked teams in the World Cup (including the hosts of the Champions Trophy) qualify for the main event.
A total of 13 different teams have featured in the Champions Trophy so far. Australia and India are the most successful team in the competition, having won it twice so far. On the other hand, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan have won it once each so far.
In this article, we are taking a look at the ICC Champions Trophy winners over the years. Along with the winners, we will also be having a look at the hosts, number of teams participating in each edition, highest run-scorer, highest wicket-taker and other stats.
