The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared the umpires for the two semifinals of the ongoing 2025 season of the Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
India will face Australia in the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, South Africa, who made a trip to Dubai in the uncertainty of their opponents for the semifinal, has flown back to Lahore and will meet New Zealand in the second semifinal on March 05.
No Richard Kettleborough among umpires for ICC Champions Trophy semifinals
Richard Kettleborough’s absence in the first semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025 is a huge relief for the Indian side. New Zealand’s Chris Gaffaney and England’s Richard Illingworth will take charge of the first semifinal in Dubai on March 04, with Michael Gough serving as the third umpire.

For the second semifinal in Lahore on March 05, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Dharmasena will work alongside Australia’s Paul Reiffel as the on-field umpire for the highly exciting contest between the Proteas and the Blackcaps.
Pakistan’s Ahsan Raza will be the fourth umpire in the game, while Ranjan Madugalle will be the match referee. Karl Hurter will play the role of the umpire coach for the encounter. Joe Wilson will operate as the third umpire in the encounter.
Dharmasena’s last game came during New Zealand’s group-stage victory over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, while Reiffel was in the middle of the high-stakes clash between the two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai.

In the first semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025, India has some fresh wounds against the Steve Smith-led side. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, they lost the final of the last ODI World Cup in 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium against this opponent and ended their 10-unbeaten streak in this competition. They will hope for their revenge.
South Africa hopes to end its chokers’ tag in the ICC events and try to book tickets for the Champions Trophy 2025 final, while the Kiwis, after a glorious run in the 50-over format, hope to continue the same and make their entry in the event’s final after 25 long years.
The result of the first semifinal will decide the venue for the final of the competition.
