With just around two weeks to go before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place on February 19, a different buzz and excitement has been created. Pakistan, the official host for the event, will start the campaign against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The Green Brigade will also face the Blackcaps and South Africa in a tri-series a week before that as a preparation for the ICC tournament. ICC is yet to get the three grounds from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). They are likely to hand it over after the tri-series ends.
Political tension between BCCI and PCB
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is yet to be fully prepared for the tournament. There is no concern for India in this prospect, as they will play all of their games at the Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Their first game will be against Bangladesh on February 20 before they lock horns with the arch-rivals.

The biggest blockbuster game of the year will take place on February 23. This adds to another intense rivalry chapter between the two cricketing nations. The excitement will be extreme after the drama of deciding the venue for the ICC tournament.
The BCCI wrote a letter to the ICC and the PCB. They informed the ICC of their decision not to travel to the neighboring country for the tournament. Mohsin Naqvi wasn’t pleased with the decision but accepted it at the last moment.

Historically, Pakistan has enjoyed a slight edge over India with a 3-2 lead in the last five encounters. They got the better of the Virat Kohli-led side during the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy at the Kennington Oval in South London.
The former batter of the defending champions, Basit Ali, shared his analysis in a video on his YouTube channel, where he suggested that there is a 70% chance for India to gain victory in the encounter, while Pakistan will have a 30% chance of registering victory. He supported his prediction due to the comparative experience of the Indian team, in the presence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“70 percent India, and 30 percent Pakistan. India has a more experienced side. If Virat and Rohit are not in form, then the game will be even.” Ali expressed.

The Rohit Sharma-led side will face England in a three-match ODI home series as a preparation for the competition, starting from Nagpur on January 06.

Kohli enjoys his ODI record against Pakistan with the help of 678 runs in 16 innings at an average of 52.2 and a strike rate of more than 100. He has celebrated three centuries and a couple of fifties against this opponent at the best score of 183.
The Indian captain, on the other hand, has clubbed 873 runs in 19 ODI innings against Pakistan at an average of 51.4 and a strike rate of 92.4. The right-handed batter has registered two centuries and eight fifties against the opponent at the best score of 140.
