Pakistan’s former captain, Inzamam Ul Haq, has punished Mohammad Hafeez’s disrespectful comments over the 90s player of the side, as he felt that all the success for the Green Brigade came in 2009 when they won the T20 World Cup under Younis Khan’s leadership.

Hafeez commented after the Mohammad Rizwan-led side failed to qualify for the semifinal of the home Champions Trophy 2025 with two defeats in three encounters, while one contest ended in a no-result due to the persistent rain against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

A few days ago, in a live show, Hafeez felt that none of the 90s players could inspire the modern generation by winning an ICC event, as he pointed out that the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy victory brought the biggest change in their cricket.

“It’s right that winning ICC trophies always inspire a country for the future among the fans and generations. I am a huge fan of the players from the 90s, but when it comes to leaving some legacies, they left nothing for Pakistan. They didn’t win any ICC events, including 1996, 1996, and 2003,” Hafeez pointed out during a live TV show with Shoaib Akhtar.

Inzamam Ul Haq didn’t take the words lightly and commented that no one could trash the legacy of the players, who represented the country in the 1990s. He also addressed that the world would know their achievements and punished Hafeez for making such statements.

“If we look at the players from the 90s generation, Pakistan cricket would lose its strength without them. If you look at players who have won something after the 90s, they are also from the 90s batch.” Inzamam Ul Haq expressed this during a live interaction in Lahore.

“The performers were from the 90s. The era of the 90s has given us a lot. No one should come up with statements like this. I don't know what he said exactly. Everyone knows what the 90s cricketers have done for the country.” Inzamam Ul Haq added.

Mohammad Hafeez drops massive clarification on remarks on the 90s team

After Inzamam Ul Haq’s comments, Hafeez dropped a massive clarification on criticism he received for theno legacycomment, which fueled controversy. He also accused the media house of fabricating the actual message.

“Some of the media houses are fabricating the actual content. The context of the discussion was all about Teams winning ICC events to inspire coming generations. It was never a personal criticism on any of the respective players from my side.” Hafeez wrote on social media.

Inzamam Ul Haq stated that the Green Brigade is not moving in the right direction and several wrong calls had been made by the management.

“We are not working in the right direction and making the wrong calls in many areas. I think that the cricket board now needs to learn from its mistakes and not repeat the same mistakes we have made in the last two years.” Inzamam Ul Haq concluded.

Pakistan’s recent T20I performance vs New Zealand

Under Salman Ali Agha in a new-looked side, Pakistan lost the opening T20I of the five-match series at the Galey Oval in Christchurch, where they could make 91 runs in the first innings before the Blackcaps chased it down with nine wickets and nearly 10 overs to spare.

In the second fixture, they showed a better batting performance with 135/9 on the board, but the Kiwis didn’t need to work hard as they chased it down with five wickets in hand to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
