Mitchell Marsh, the Australian all-rounder, has been medically allowed to play in the upcoming Indian Premier League season (IPL 2025), despite a back injury. Marsh is slated to play for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025 that begins on March 22.

Despite playing with the Delhi Capitals for the past three seasons, Marsh has been plagued by injury problems. He only played four games the previous season before suffering a hamstring injury, which forced him to return home in the middle of his recuperation.

Marsh had an ordinary IPL 2024 campaign

In four IPL 2024 games, he amassed 61 runs at an average of just 15.25. At an economy rate of 12.87, he took just one wicket with the ball this season.

Following his return, he captained Australia in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated from the competition after a devastating loss to Afghanistan in the Super Eight stage.

Apart from Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Marsh has also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rising Pune Supergiants, Pune Warriors, and Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League.

Mitchell Marsh to play for LSG in IPL 2025, but only as a batter

In a huge boost for the LSG, Mitchell Marsh has been medically allowed to play in the IPL 2025 season. Mitchell Marsh missed the recently finished Champions Trophy and the ODI tour of Sri Lanka due to dysfunction and lower back pain.

Since the UK tour last year, he has been dealing with a disc issue, which is thought to be the cause of the injury. To be fully fit, he sought the advice of a back doctor earlier this year and rested for a while. Despite his back problems, the all-rounder has been allowed to play in the IPL 2025 and has begun to bat in recent weeks.

Cricket Australia gives conditional clearance

According to ESPNCricinfo, Mitchell Marsh has been cleared to play, although it is thought that he will only be available as a specialist batter. This may hamper Marsh’s chances to make it into the final LSG XI, given that he will only be allowed to bat.

He is likely to join LSG on March 18 and will link up with his former Australia head coach Justin Langer, who is in the same role in Lucknow as well. It will be the second season for Langer as LSG's head coach.
