The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their IPL 2025 campaign with a victory against the Mumbai Indians (MI), but they have since suffered two successive defeats, putting them in eighth place in the points table.
Under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership, the franchise has struggled in the batting department during the first six overs. They lost three wickets in the powerplay at home against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before falling short by six runs against the Rajasthan Royals in the following encounter.
They are back at home, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, for the very first afternoon game against the Delhi Capitals. The Capitals have earned two victories in as many games so far in the tournament.
IPL 2025: CSK Playing vs DC- Match 17
Openers- Rachin Ravindra, Davon Conway/Rahul Tripathi
Rachin Ravindra has batted decently for the CSK side in the 2025 season of the tournament. The New Zealand left-handed batter clubbed a fine half-century to shoulder them over the line. In the next game against RCB, he stayed on the crease for a long time but failed to take them over the line.

Apart from the last encounter, when Ravindra made a four-ball duck, it has been a stable season for the southpaw. On the other hand, the real concern for the management is around Rahul Tripathi, who hasn’t scored many runs.
CSK may want to bring back Davon Conway in the playing eleven in place of Tripathi, who, if he gets a chance, will be eager to make a point.
Middle order- Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Shivam Dube, Shaik Rasheed/Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c)
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the lone fighter for CSK in the IPL 2025. Against Mumbai, the five-time champions’ captain celebrated his fastest half-century of the league. Even against Rajasthan, he kept the side in for the chase with an entertaining knock of 63 runs in 44 balls at a strike rate of 143.18.
Shivam Dube showed his power against the spinners and will be vital to tackle the left-arm spin of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel in the CSK vs DC fixture. It’s very unlikely for the side not to give a proper chance to a batter, but they may want to bring Shaik Rasheed in on the side, replacing Vijay Shankar.
MS Dhoni, after two decent knocks in the middle, must have found his hand back. Ravindra Jadeja is their premier all-rounder. He bowled just two overs in the last game, but that scenario will change for this clash against Delhi on the slow Chepauk surface.
Bowlers: Ravichandran Ashwin/Shreyas Gopal, Noor Ahmed, Matheesha Pathirana, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj (Impact)
Leaving out Ravichandran Ashwin in Chennai will be a huge call, but his recent form has been the worst. He went for 1/46 in his four overs against the Royals after leaking 1/22 in two overs against RCB. Shreyas Gopal could be a fine replacement.
If CSK goes with Conway at the start, then they can’t have one of Sam Curran or Jamie Overton in the all-rounders’ department. Matheesha Pathirana will be their death over, having slowly started to find his rhythm back.

Noor Ahmed, the leading wicket-taker of the IPL 2025, will be CSK’s trump card. Khaleel Ahmed will share the new ball, while they can also use the exciting Anshul Kamboj as the impact substitute player against Delhi.
