The 2020 runners-up of the Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals (DC), started the IPL 2025 tournament with two successive victories to be in second position in the points table with a strong net run rate of +1.320.

In the opening encounter, Ashutosh Sharma shouldered them to a nervy chase against the Lucknow Super Giants. On the other hand, it was Mitchell Starc’s maiden five-wicket haul in T20s to earn them a comfortable win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Delhi will now have to move to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for their consecutive afternoon fixture against the Chennai Super Kings.

IPL 2025: DC Playing XI vs CSK- Match 17

Openers- Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser McGurk

Faf du Plessis is one of the rare players of the league who most of the franchises keep on exchanging despite the right-handed batter’s consistency with the bat. He is still one of the best in the fielding department.

In DC’s previous encounter against Sunrisers, Faf stole the show in the powerplay. He nailed Pat Cummins for a few big shots before going after Mohammed Shami. The former South African captain finished with 50 runs in 27 balls at a strike rate of 185.19, shouldering on three boundaries and as many sixes.

Jake Fraser McGurk, after a tough opening game, took his time in the middle and nailed 38 runs in 27 balls at a strike rate of 118.75, thanks to four boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Middle order: Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul (wk), Axar Patel (c), Tristan Stubbs, Viraj Nigam, Ashutosh Sharma

Abhishek Porel also couldn’t contribute to the side’s victory against Lucknow. But against Hyderabad, the left-handed DC batter creamed 34 unbeaten runs in just 18 deliveries at a strike rate of 188.89, thanks to two boundaries and two over boundaries.

KL Rahul, after missing the opening clash due to paternity leave, returned for the second game, replacing Sameer Rizvi. It was a cameo of 15 runs in five balls with two boundaries and one six from the wicket-keeper batter.

Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 21 runs in 14 balls to take them through for the previous fixture. DC didn’t need their impact player, Ashutosh Sharma, for the previous victory, but it could be vital in Chennai.

Bowlers: Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Mukhesh Kumar (Impact)

Mitchell Starc, after picking up two wickets in the previous game, will be highly confident for the fixture against the Chennai Super Kings. His role will be to send back the opponent captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, to destroy the side’s balance.

Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will be important in the middle overs for the Delhi side in the afternoon show against the Super Kings. Shivam Dube will try to go hard at both the spinners, but they will need to vary their pace and come up with a smart bowling performance to tackle the all-rounder.

Mohit Sharma, having played at the ground in the past for CSK, will look to use the conditions for the slower balls in the death overs. Mukesh Kumar, coming as an impact player, could bowl more in the middle overs for the clash.
