The Delhi Capitals (DC) are going with all guns blazing in IPL 2025, thanks to four successive victories. They are currently in the second position of the points table with a net run rate of +1.278.
In their previous contest against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi struggled at the start of the innings in both the batting and bowling departments. But they managed to get the balance towards the middle overs. KL Rahul’s fine 93-run unbeaten knock guided them over the line.
DC will face the Mumbai Indians in their next fixture on April 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
IPL 2025: DC Playing XI vs MI- Match 29
Openers- Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk
Both the opening batters of the Delhi Capitals have been hot and cold this season. They have struggled in patches. Du Plessis, after missing the previous game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), returned to the opening spot and managed just two runs in seven balls.
The former South African captain looked to pull the short ball from Yash Dayal but couldn’t judge the pace and bounce, and hit it straight in the air. DC’s concern has been around Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has nailed just 46 runs in four innings this season at an average of 11.50.
It won’t be long before the management turns their mind and starts to open the innings with KL Rahul and use Donovan Ferreira in the lower middle order.
Middle order- Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul (wk), Axar Patel (c), Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma
Abhishek Porel was on seven runs when he committed the same mistake as the other two batters of the side. The left-handed batter was late in the pull shot against Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Jitesh Sharma grabbed a fine catch to send the batter back into the pavilion. Delhi suddenly found themselves 30/3 in the fifth over. Axar Patel joined KL Rahul in the middle.
Rahul was watchful in the first few overs of the game, but Axar, after two boundaries in the knock of 15 runs, trying to breach the infield, was caught at the boundary line by Tim David.
Rahul was quite calm in the chase as he put up a partnership of 111 runs for the fifth wicket with Tristan Stubbs. The Indian wicket-keeper batter nailed an unbeaten knock of 93 runs in 53 balls, thanks to seven fours and six sixes to carry them home with Stubbs, who contributed an undefeated 38 runs in 23 balls.
Rahul’s knock for DC was going at a slow rate before he started to bash the bowlers just when it started to sprinkle.
Bowlers- Viraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Mohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukhesh Kumar (Impact Sub)
Viraj Nigam was incredible with his spin bowling during the previous game. After going for so many runs in the first four overs, it was important for one of the bowlers to break the flow of scoring. And Viraj Nigam did that exactly with figures of 2/18 in four overs.

Kuldeep Yadav was also fantastic for DC with figures of 2/17 in four overs. They managed the middle overs fabulously to make sure they got back into the contest quickly. Mitchell Starc struggled at the start to find the right line and length, but he will be eager to get his fire back in their first official home game.
