The Delhi Capitals (DC), who has earned a fine victory during the opening clash of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Lucknow Super Ginats, earned an inspiring victory at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. They hope to continue the same performance against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Delhi, despite the inspiring performance in the clash, couldn’t do well in the top order, as their batters failed with low scores. Abhishek Porel, the wicket-keeper batter, couldn’t open his account, while Sameer Rizvi and Jake Fraser-Gurk returned with low scores.

Openers- Jake Fraser McGurk and Faf du Plessis (vc.)
Jake Fraser-McGurk came into the tournament with a lot of expectation as he managed 330 runs in nine innings of the previous edition of the league at a strike rate of 234.04, shouldering on four half-centuries at the best score of 84 runs.
Faf du Plessis changed his base from Bengaluru to DC and earned the vice-captaincy. The onus was on the openers during the 210-run chase against the Lucknow Super Giants to provide them with a strong platform, but both couldn’t contribute as anticipated.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, on his second delivery, looked to nail Shardul Thakur out of the ground but picked up the hands of Ayush Badoni and returned to the pavilion for just one run. Faf looked busy in the middle as he drilled 29 runs in 18 balls, thanks to three boundaries and a couple of sixes, at a strike rate of 161.11.
Middle order- KL Rahul, Sameer Rizvi/Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel (c), Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, Viraj Nigam
The return of KL Rahul in the second encounter for DC will be a massive boost for the franchise. He missed the opening game due to the birth of his first child, but he is now prepared to take on the bowlers. One of the advantages of the wicket-keeper batter is the experience he would bring to the middle order.
But that also means one of Sameer Rizvi and Abhishek Porel won’t be part of the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Porel seems to be ahead in the selection because of providing the left-handed option at number three.
Axar Patel, the captain of the DC side, will look to continue his strong performance in the game with both bat and ball in hand. Tristan Stubbs may look to extend his show from the last game, while Ashutosh Sharma hopes to continue the same performance in the afternoon clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Viraj Nigam is another entertainer in the side, who contributed with a few big shots in Delhi’s one-wicket victory in the last fixture against the Lucknow franchise.
Bowlers- Mitchell Starc, Mohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukhesh Kumar/T Natarajan
Mitchell Starc, who picked up three wickets in his four overs during the first innings of the encounter in his debut for DC, hopes to pick up a couple of wickets with the new ball, which he failed to do in the last game. Mohit Sharma was excellent at the death phase, using his slower balls, making it incredibly hard for the batters to nail him for big shots.

Kuldeep Yadav, who finished with 2/20 in four overs, was the peak of the bowlers. He bowled an excellent over to control the run rate. Mukhesh Kumar didn’t bowl well, and the DC side may look to replace the Bengal pacer with T Natarajan.
The left-arm pacer can bowl superbly well in the death overs to control the opponent side’s run-rate along with Mohit Sharma in the attack.
