The 2022 champions of the Indian Premier League, Gujarat Titans (GT), who continued the same form in the following year, finishing as the runners-up of the tournament, couldn’t repeat the same show in the last year under the new captaincy of Shubman Gill, in the absence of their old captain and all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, and the pacer, Mohammed Shami.

Many suspected that Gujarat might think of changing their leader, but they kept faith in Gill and added a new member to the squad, who has now balanced the squad even more. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj will share the new ball, while Jos Buttler will fire up in the powerplay overs.

IPL 2025: GT Playing XI vs PBKS- Match 5

Openers- Shubman Gill (c) and Jos Butler (wk.)

It was a shocker for many fans when Rajasthan Royals decided to part ways with their former opener and wicket-keeper batter, Jos Buttler, who smashed 359 runs last season in 11 innings at an average of nearly 40 and a strike rate of 140.78, shouldering on a couple of centuries.

Even though GT’s performance was not up to the mark, Shubman Gill fired up with 426 runs in 12 innings of the IPL 2024. The right-handed batter had an average of 38.72 and a strike rate of 147.40, thanks to two half-centuries and one century at the best score of 104.

For Gill, the biggest plus point is playing at the home venue for G. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Indian vice-captain has smashed 953 runs in 18 IPL innings at an average of 63.5 and a strike rate of nearly 160, thanks to four fifties and three centuries at the best score of 129.

Middle order: Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tewatia, Washington Sundar, Rashid Khan

Not many expected the Tamil Nadu southpaw, Sai Sudharsan, to crack the T20 code. But last year, he was the sixth leading run-getter of the Indian Premier League with 527 runs in 12 innings at an average of 47.90 and a strike rate of 141.28, shouldering on one century and two half-centuries at the best score of 103.

Glenn Phillips is coming off a fabulous tri-series in Pakistan and the Champions Trophy with a couple of centuries and hopes to continue the same performance in the IPL 2025 for the GT side. Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia are the two spin all-rounders of the side and will look to add a few runs in the lower order besides contributing with a few wickets.

Rashid Khan is the biggest trump card for the 2022 champions in the middle overs. He can also smack the ball out of the park if they require a few vital lower-order runs.

Bowlers: Mohammad Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Sai Kishore, Prasidh Krishna

Mohammad Siraj and Kagiso Rabada will share the new ball for the Gujarat side in the new season. Siraj, even after carrying a high economy in the first six overs, is capable of picking a few vital wickets in the powerplay. The management can use Rabada at the back end or even in the middle overs.

Prasidh Krishna is coming off a good season on the national side and could explore the conditions of the ground. Playing his bouncers won’t be an easy job, and the Titans can use the Karnataka pacer in the same fashion.

Sai Kishore is another spinner for the GT side. He will be vital in the middle overs during the 2025 season, and his bowling partnership with Rashid will be critical.
