In the seven head-to-head encounters between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Mumbai Indians (MI), the former is leading by a dominating margin of 5-2. Both sides are in a spot of not dropping the eliminator game of the IPL 2025.
Gujarat and Mumbai will meet during the eliminator of the event at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in Chandigarh on May 30, 2025, during the GT vs MI fixture.
The Shubman Gill-led side finished the points table in the third position despite having an equal number of victories (9) with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Gujarat’s previous defeat by 83 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings changed the equation.
On the other hand, Mumbai was excellent for the middle half of the IPL 2025 before losing two games in the last three fixtures. The Hardik Pandya-led side began the campaign with just one victory in the first five encounters before earning six successive victories.
Going into the GT vs MI encounter, the entire focus for the 2022 champions will be on the two openers- Captain Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The southpaw is the highest run-scorer with 679 runs in 14 innings at an average of 52.23 and a strike rate of 155.37, thanks to five fifties and one century.
Gill, meanwhile, smacked 649 runs in 14 innings at an average of 54.08 and a strike rate of 156.38, shouldering six half-centuries. However, they will be under pressure after the departure of both Jos Buttler and Kagiso Rabada, as they will need to find different players for the various positions.
Before the GT vs MI clash, the Mumbai Indians will also face the same issue after Will Jacks flew away for the national duty of the ODI series at home against the West Indies. In Ryan Rickelton’s absence, they will need to form a new opening stand of Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow.

Hardik Pandya has not been up to the mark in the leadership department in recent times. He needs to make better use of the bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah’s role will be crucial for the side to break Gujarat’s opening stand.
