After a tough opening evening of IPL 2025, where they lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earned their very first victory of the season against the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati and may look to continue the same in the MI vs KKR fixture.
Kolkata’s batting department struggled apart from the wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten 97 runs in 61 balls at a strike rate of nearly 160. Sunil Narine, if fit for the clash, will be back at the Wankhede Stadium.

Openers- Moeen Ali/ Sunil Narine, Quinton de Kock (wk.)
With the sickness of Sunil Narine, the KKR side decided to bring in Moeen Ali for the clash. The spin all-rounder from England ended with figures of 2/23 in his four overs at an economy rate of 5.80. But he couldn’t contribute in the same manner during the batting and ended up with five singles in 12 balls.

Despite his decent show with the ball, he might not be able to feature in the MI vs KKR clash as they will look to bring back their premier spin all-rounder, Sunil Narine. The latter’s performance at the Wankhede Stadium will also inspire them to do so.
Quinton de Kock remained the leading individual run-getter of the innings as he nailed 97 runs in 61 balls at a strike rate of 159.02, shouldering on eight boundaries and six over boundaries. He will be more confident going into the clash against the Mumbai Indians.
Middle order- Ajinkya Rahane (c), Venkatesh Iyer, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh
Ajinkya Rahane played a great knock during the previous contest against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as he fired up with a few big shots to celebrate his half-century in the game. But against RR, he couldn’t perform well and returned to the pavilion for just 18 runs in 15 balls.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi got a promotion to number four and managed to remain unbeaten on 22 runs in 17 balls at a strike rate of 130. Venkatesh Iyer, who couldn’t do well in the first game, didn’t get the chance to bat in the second contest. But he will want to make a mark at the Wankhede Stadium.
Andre Russell, quite surprisingly, didn’t bowl a single over for KKR in the clash against RR, and that’s a question on his fitness. Rinku Singh, after a poor opening game, couldn’t bat in the RR fixture in Guwahati.
Bowlers- Spencer Johson, Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy (Impact)
Spencer Johnson had almost picked up Yashasvi Jaiswal's wicket on the very first ball of the innings, but he ended up with 1/42 in four overs. That’s the nature of the format. Vaibhav Arora picked up two crucial wickets in the first few overs to claim figures of 2/33 in four overs.

But the biggest contribution in the bowling department came from the two spinners, Moeen and Varun Chakravarthy. The former picked up two wickets for 23 runs in four overs at an economy rate of 5.80, as he used the pace of the balls quite brilliantly. Chakravarthy ended with 2/17 in four overs as both the KKR spinners never allowed the opponents’ middle order to bat freely.
