IPL 2025: KKR vs LSG Match Moved From Kolkata To This Venue

The Kolkata Knight Riders will play the Lucknow Super Giants at home in IPL 2025 at Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium. There was a last-minute modification to the original itinerary, which called for the game to be played at KKR's home stadium, Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Notably, Guwahati will host the Rajasthan Royals for their first two home games of IPL 2025. The Barsapara Stadium will host three IPL 2025 games this season as the KKR vs. LSG game was added to this list.

On March 22, the defending champions KKR and RCB will play their first IPL 2025 match at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. The stadium will also host the tournament's opening ceremony before the game.

KKR’s home game against LSG moves to Guwahati from Kolkata

The match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 will be rescheduled, according to a PTI report, because of security concerns in Kolkata during the widely observed Ram Navami holiday.

Snehasish Ganguly stated that although the BCCI had already been asked to postpone this match, they were unable to do so at such short notice. He asserted that on that day, the state police in Kolkata would not be able to offer sufficient security.

Security arrangements cited the reason behind the shift

"The IPL match between KKR and LSG on April 6 is to be shifted from Kolkata to Guwahati following security concerns on Ram Navami day. We have informed the BCCI to reschedule the match, but there is no scope for rescheduling the game in the city later and I'm now hearing that it's going to be shifted to Guwahati," CAB president Snehashish Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

"I had several rounds of talks with the Kolkata Police and they said they won't be able to provide enough security on that day. If there's no police protection, accommodating and managing a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,"," he added.

Snehashish Ganguly discussed the events, but the IPL has not yet released an official statement. Since hosting the match outside of Kolkata is the only viable alternative, an announcement is probably imminent.

Guwahati to host RR home games in IPL 2025 as well

The Rajasthan Royals' first two tournament home games will be held in Guwahati on March 26 and 30, respectively, against the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR will be more prepared for the stadium conditions because they have already played a game before their home match versus LSG here.

Because LSG's owner, Sanjiv Goenka, also owns the football team Mohun Bagan Super Giants, which is based in Kolkata, the games between KKR and LSG typically attract large crowds.

These two teams' next game would have attracted a large crowd, making crowd control challenging for the security guards. Guwahati was chosen as the backup location because it would be prepared for the event.
