The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are stuck in the mid-table traffic in IPL 2025. They are in sixth position currently in the points table with three victories in five clashes at an economy rate of +0.078.
Lucknow started the tournament with a nervy defeat against the Delhi Capitals by one wicket in Vizag before opening their account with a thumping victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
The defeat against Punjab Kings at home didn’t spoil their confidence as they collected a couple of consecutive wins over Mumbai and Kolkata.
It's a sharp turnaround for them against the struggling Chennai Super Kings on April 14 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
IPL 2025: LSG Playing XI vs CSK- Match 30
Openers- Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram
Both Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram have been strong for the Super Giants at the top of the order. The Australian all-rounder, who is playing for the LSG only as a batter due to his injury, is the third-leading run-getter of the season currently with 265 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 180.27.
Against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, the right-handed batter drilled 81 runs in just 48 balls, shouldering on six boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of nearly 170. Aiden Markram, on the other hand, belted 47 runs in 28 balls to put up an opening stand of 99 runs in just 10.2 overs.
They hope to offer the same opening stand to be ahead in the clash against a struggling bowling line-up of the Chennai Super Kings.

Middle order- Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, David Miller, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Ayush Badoni
Marsh’s impact fell nothing of Nicholas Pooran during the game against the defending champions. After the all-rounder’s dismissal, LSG needed someone to offer them the firepower with the bat. Nicholas Pooran took the responsibility and nailed 87 unbeaten runs in 36 balls at a strike rate of 241.67, thanks to seven boundaries and eight over boundaries.
The West Indies batter is the leading run-getter of the IPL 2025 with 288 runs in five innings at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 225, thanks to three fifties.
David Miller and Abdul Samad scored four and six runs respectively as LSG posted 238/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Rishabh Pant, due to his bad form, was pushed in the batting order, giving chances to others. Ayush Badoni will look for the opportunity to make an impact in the game.
Bowlers: Akash Deep, Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, Dinesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi (Impact)
None of the new ball bowlers were effective in the 238-run defense. Both Akash Deep and Shardul Thakur gave away over 50 runs in their allotted four overs each. If Akash Deep bowled seven wides, then Thakur went a step ahead to bowl eight, including five in the same over.
Dinesh Rathi bowled an exceptional spell of 1/33 in his four overs as he also broke the momentum of the batting side to bring LSG back into the contest. Ravi Bishnoi held his nerve to do well in the very last over of the second innings.
Mayank Yadav is yet to get fit for the encounter.
