Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was inspired by some fantastic performances in the first two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where they qualified for the playoffs under KL Rahul’s leadership. But with the DC vs LSG clash in the 2025 edition, it will be a new journey for the franchise.

They parted ways with the former captain, KL Rahul, who replaced the former DC captain, Rishabh Pant, who will now lead the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the new edition of the tournament. But they will be concerned with the long list of injuries.

IPL 2025: LSG Playing XI vs DC- Match 4

Openers: Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh

The question going into the new season was on the Lucknow surface, but the WPL 2025 season showed that the groundsmen have worked on it to make it a belter for the batters. But for the DC vs LSG clash, the batters will enjoy the conditions in Vishakhapatnam.

Aiden Markram smashed 220 runs in 11 innings of the IPL 2024 at an average of 24.44 and a strike rate of 124.29, shouldering on the best score of 50. He can hope for a change of approach in the new season at a position where he could free his arms with just two fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle.

Mitchell Marsh, who, due to his injury that kept him out of the Champions Trophy, won’t be able to bowl in the IPL 2025. But he can show his power in the opening position after a struggling 2024, where he managed 61 runs in four innings at an average of 15.25.

Middle order batters: Rishabh Pant (c & wk.), Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Ayush Badoni, Shahbaz Ahmed

Lucknow will have three left-handers in the middle order. Rishabh Pant, who smashed 446 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 155.40, thanks to three fifties during the IPL 2024, can bat at number three. Nicholas Pooran will walk at number four in the line-up.

The former West Indies captain can be ruthless against the spinners. He was LSG’s second-leading run-getter in the previous edition with 499 runs in 14 innings at an average of 62.37 and a strike rate of 178.21, shouldering on three half-centuries at the best score of 75.

David Miller is another batter who is in tremendous current form on the back of a century in the Champions Trophy against New Zealand in the semifinal. If the Lucknow management thinks of breaking the three successive southpaws in the LSG vs DC clash, then they can send Ayush Badoni at number five.

The pocket-rocket player had a decent time in 2024 with 235 runs at a strike rate of 137.42, but his current form will be a huge advantage for the franchise. Shahbaz Ahmed will be the spin all-rounder for the side.

Bowlers: Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, Akash Singh

Ravi Bishnoi will be the trump card for the Lucknow side in the middle overs. In 2024, they struggled to pick wickets in the middle overs, and the onus will again be on Bishnoi this year to contribute, in the 7-15 overs, starting with the DC vs LSG clash.

Akash Deep may start with the new ball, along with the left-arm pacer, Aakash Singh. Avesh Khan can hit the deck hard in the middle overs, as he used to do for the Rajasthan Royals.
