The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a heavy defeat by eight wickets in their previous encounter against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at home, and they are stuck in sixth position in the points table with a damaged net run rate of -0.054.

Their inconsistent season, in which they started weakly before gathering pace and again fell with two defeats in the last three encounters, has seen the Rishabh Pant-led side dealing with a few issues in the management around the players’ selection and batting order.

LSG will play the informed Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 45th encounter of the IPL 2025, which will take place on April 27, 2025, in an afternoon fixture at the Wankhede Stadium.

IPL 2025: LSG Playing XI vs MI- Match 45

Openers- Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram

Mitchell Marsh started the IPL 2025 with consistently terrific performances with the bat. But since returning to the season after missing one game for the franchise, the LSG opener hasn’t looked to be in the same beast mode.

In the last game, the right-handed batter struggled for the right pace on the surface for his 45 runs in 36 balls at a strike rate of 125, thanks to three boundaries and one six. Overall, he has clubbed 344 runs in eight innings at an average of 43 and a strike rate of 160.74, shouldering four half-centuries at the best score of 81.

The positive thing for LSG is how Aiden Markram has stood up for his performance during this season. With his fourth fifty this season, the opening batter nailed 326 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 150.92.

Middle order- Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, Rishabh Pant (c & wk.), Ayush Badoni, Himmat Singh/Matthew Breetzke (Impact)

It’s the same story with Nicholas Pooran, who now has failed in three successive games in the event. The Southpaw is currently the third-leading run-getter with 377 runs in nine innings at an average of 47.12 and a strike rate of 204.

However, LSG's biggest issue is Rishabh Pant’s position in the middle order. In the last game, he had a heated argument with their mentor, Zaheer Khan, perhaps related to the same discussion. David Miller failed to make an impact with his 14 runs in 15 balls, while Ayush Badoni added 36 runs in 21 balls.

It's hard to believe that Pant, who once played three and four for the Delhi Capitals, walked seven for LSG with two balls left in the inning. Miller has not done anything significant this season, and the management may want to use either Breetzke or Shamar Joseph to strengthen the bowling department.

Abdul Samad has done well in most of the games he has had the chance. He could feature at six to use his power in the middle order.

Bowlers- Shardul Thakur, Dinesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav/Shamar Joseph/ Mayank Yadav

Shardul Thakur, despite being LSG’s leading wicket-taker this season with 12 scalps in nine innings, has carried a high economy rate of 11.20 with an average of 15. Digvesh Rathi is the only bowler who has bowled well with the right line and length at an economy rate of 7.27.

Pant will need to use Ravi Bishnoi a bit more in the middle overs, while Avesh Khan, after his match-winning performance against the Rajasthan Royals, has gotten back in his groove.
