In the 14 Indian Premier League (IPL) fixtures at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, teams batting first have a lead of 7-6 over the chasing sides, with one game ending in a no-result encounter. The LSG vs PBKS encounter at the same venue will make it a little tough for the toss-winning captain to make his decision.

The left-arm wrist spinners enjoyed the conditions the most, with an economy rate of just below six. However, the medium pacers have been belted for an economy rate of nearly nine in T20s since the start of 2022.

LSG and PBKS’ bowling performance in the middle overs in IPL 2025

Neither of these two sides has done well in their fixtures so far in the middle overs of the innings. Lucknow picked up three wickets in the powerplay of their opening game against the Delhi Capitals, but couldn’t create pressure on the middle-order batters of the Delhi side because of the lack of wicket-taking abilities.

In the first two innings of the league, LSG has leaked 171 runs in 18 overs at an average of 34.20 and a strike rate of 21.60. They have picked up just four wickets during the period, which is the fourth lowest of the IPL 2025.

Lucknow’s economy rate of 9.50 is also not among the top three in the over between seven to 15 before the LSG vs PBKS encounter, and that shows how much pressure their death bowlers come under against the set batters. Apart from Ravi Bishnoi, no one has looked threatened, and even Bishnoi’s performance hasn’t been up to the mark.

For the Punjab Kings, they picked up just one wicket during that phase during their last encounter against the Gujarat Titans. They leaked 113 runs in 54 balls at an economy rate of 12.56. Yuzvendra Chahal was drilled for 34 runs in three overs without any success. It would be a huge blow for the franchise if their premier spinner doesn’t improve in the LSG vs PBKS clash.

It was Vijaykumar Vyshak and Marco Jansen’s superb execution of wide yorkers between the 14th and 16th over, where they didn’t offer a single boundary to increase pressure on the Titans, and that resulted in their victory by 11 runs at the end.

Vyshak is expected to feature in the LSG vs PBKS encounter, but the questions will remain on Chahal, who needs to bring his best game to tackle the situation.
