The Mumbai Indians (MI) have picked up the right pace in the second season of the IPL 2025 with four consecutive victories. Their aim is now to qualify for the top four of the points table, where they currently stand in fourth position with five wins in nine group-stage encounters at a net run rate of +0.673.

Mumbai is arriving into the home fixture after a superb away victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. One of the main reasons for all four wins is their bowling department, which has foxed the opponent’s batting with the right planning.

The five-time champions will lock horns with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27, 2025, in the afternoon encounter at the Wankhede Stadium.

IPL 2025: MI Playing XI vs LSG- Match 45

Openers- Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton (wk)

It’s a huge relief for the Mumbai management to see their former captain Rohit Sharma making a comeback in the season. The right-handed batter looked a tad more aggressive in his knocks at the start of the campaign.

But he has finally found the right balance and rhythm. For the last two games, Rohit has crossed the 70+ run mark on successive occasions. He has now thumped 228 runs in eight innings at an average of 32.57 and a strike rate of 154.05, thanks to a couple of fifties at the best score of unbeaten 76 runs.

Ryan Rickelton, the wicket-keeper opening batter, has done a decent job in the batting department. The left-handed batter has smacked the balls out of the ground but will be eager to convert the starts into a big score.

Middle order- Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya (c), Naman Dhir

Will Jacks is the top-order all-rounder that most successful teams want to have on the side. The England batter cracked 22 runs in 19 balls but has done a good job with the ball and on the field.

Suryakumar Yadav’s form is the biggest reason for Mumbai’s rise in the tournament. The right-handed batter smashed an unbeaten 40 runs in 19 balls, shouldering on five boundaries and a couple of sixes at a strike rate of 210.53. He is currently the fourth-leading run-getter of the season with 373 runs at a strike rate of 166.51.

Mumbai has a slight headache. Most batters haven’t batted in the last few games, with the side claiming a victory quite comfortably. The question is if they find the balance and aggression back, they need to go into the middle and swing the blade from the first ball of the inning.

Naman Dhir, when batted at three in the absence of Rohit in the first round of the season against Lucknow, celebrated a fine fifty.

Bowlers- Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Vignesh Puttur (Impact)

It was Santner’s delivery to send back Karun Nair in Delhi that changed the entire season for the five-time champions. Santner has varied his pace beautifully in the last few games, including the last game against Hyderabad, where he ended with 0/19 in four overs.

Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar broke the opponent’s back with early wickets with the new ball and ended with a combined figure of 6/38 in eight overs. Jasprit Bumrah struggled though, with 1/39 and will look to make a self-comeback.
