Following the military escalation between India and Pakistan, IPL 2025 has been stopped due to mounting security concerns. This follows the cancellation of the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals game in Dharamsala due to safety concerns.
The site has become the focus of rising tension, forcing the BCCI to hold urgent negotiations regarding the tournament's survival.
PBKS vs DC had to be called off
It is less than 100 kilometers from Pathankot, where air raid warnings were given.
The match at Dharamsala started later than scheduled due to rain, but it was abruptly ended when the floodlights in the stadium failed.
Initially believed to be a technical glitch, the situation quickly deteriorated when officials and players realized the security risks posed by the air raid sirens.
IPL suspended for one week with immediate effect
The decision to postpone IPL 2025 was made after a call with IPL chairman Arun Dhumal and other BCCI executives, including Saikia. The ban was communicated to all franchises. Since the teams have already started to disband, players and support staff are reportedly taking the earliest flights both inside and outside of India.
It is thought that all of the participants agreed that the current situation rendered it unsuitable to continue IPL 2025. The current IPL 2025 has now been stopped for one week with immediate effect, according to the governing council.

BCCI releases official statement on IPL 2025 suspension
A temporary suspension of IPL 2025 was chosen by the BCCI after considering all available options, taking into account the interests and safety of all parties involved.
The stakeholders' safe mobility was one of the first worries. The highest level of secrecy is being upheld in its attempt to move all IPL participants—teams, players, broadcast crews, and other league employees—from Dharamsala to New Delhi.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders."
